Beware the Scam artist...

One of the agents in my company got this inquiry about one of her listings today.

The age old scam artists are now targeting real estate agents. I think our on-line marketing is reaching a much broader audience than we thought...or wanted.

Poor scam artist Sara Bissett...she just wants the extra money for an airline ticket so she can move in!  Yeah right!!!

I sure hope no overly eager agent falls for this!  I know we all need sales but this is just a BIG SCAM!

Thank you for sharing the e-mail.

Okay..
I will need your information so my company can issue out a check for payment.
I will be moving in alone
Included will be living expenses as they insist on writing out just a check for my trip.
The fastest and most convenient way to send a check this 21st century is by echeck.
All you need is get a versa ink and check paper at the shoppingmall( office depot, officemax amongst others) and print out your own check.
Isnt technology great?
Will obviously wait till check clears.
You deduct your payment fees and cost of the the ink and paper from the check and send me the balance so I can arrange for my flight.
I will need your :

Name :
Address :
Tel Number :
email address:
Total Deposit & Charges :

So as soon as you sent payment is sent the following day or as soon as they get your information and you can print out and cash same day, no more loss of checks in the post of delay.

Thanks and let me know.

The listing scammers are in Virginia also.  I think most of the time the email reeks "SCAM" just from the email, incorrect spelling, grammar, and the incredibly ridiculous things in the email.  We all need to read and heed - be it for our business or our other emails.

I had someone try to pull the Nigerian scam on me back in January! I wrote a blog about it because he had me almost believing him that he was going to purchase a $375K home. Had the P&S made and he even sent the good faith check!

Tried to scam me for $95K! I fixed his little number!

OMG Maureen...Thank god you got his number! 95k...Wow!

Rhonda...I had an elderly uncle living on a fixed income in Florida fall for one of these scams last year. Sadly he died a few months back...penniless!

It's so amazing how much time and energy we have to spend watching out for these crooks.  You know it would be a whole lot easier to just get a legitimate JOB!

Well, that's a different twist for sure!  I got the ole Nigerian email - but they wanted to purchase a $1.5m property - trouble is, in Kansas, these are RARE, not the norm!  Had scam written all over it!

07/11/2007 06:10 PM by Melissa Schnieders (RE/MAX Premier)

Sybil...that would be too hard for them! A real job might mean they would have to leave their computer.

Melissa ...These people never seem to give up!

I have received a few , usually after the first line I hit the delete button.

Jennifer...Hitting delete is the way to go, sadly there are way too many people who fall for this stuff and end up losing big time.

Nice update on a another twisted scam....my can on a comment in AR from Nigeria.  They have six million deposited and I can get 20% by just helping them process money into the US, of course they will need a few thousand from me to get money processed through their local banking system.  Nice post Monika.

Hi Monika - this is the same old scam junk that's been going around for a long time now.  The wording gets changed every so often, and the names get 'updated'.....you just wonder why on earth the people who create this junk don't out those 'special' talents to use doing something that's actually good and productive!

I sure hope agents don't fall for this!

Monika - that is absolutely riduculous!!!  who would fall for something like that anyway?

07/13/2007 12:56 PM by Rick & Ines - Miami Shores Real Estate (Majestic Properties)

Ann...Same junk different wording and yet people do fall for it!

Ines...You'd be surprised how many people fall for it. Sadly they simply want to believe!
