Toto, We're Not in Kansas Anymore!

Southern California experienced torrential rains yesterday.  No, not just some rain.  We had actual thunder, lightning, hail, flooding, heavy downpour and even a tornado here and there.  We even had a tornado watch going on yesterday afternoon.  I was waiting for Elmira Gulch (Margaret Hamilton) to come riding by my window on her bicycle with Toto in the basket.  Craziness!  In the afternoon, this was just a taste of what we experienced:

It was over in about an hour.  After evening fell, so did more rain.  We had this going on:

Lightning was almost hitting the hills behind our house.  Thunder rolled on and on, sounding alot like the jets we hear every so often from March Air Reserve Base located about a mile and a half south of our home.  There's supposed to be an even heavier cell headed our way later this afternoon.  Suffice it to say, Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore!

Heather, It was really bad! My wife had to drive up to L.A. in the middle of the heaviest downpour. She said it was like driving in a hurricane...I heard it's supposed to be worse on Thursday. Be careful driving! Michael

It doesn't look like it is going to be letting up anytime soon either, Ron & Alexandra.  I've got my Flip camera charged and ready to go to capture anything else.

I'm glad your wife got through OK, Michael.  I have a friend who lives in Orange.  Her son's high school was on lockdown because of the tornado warnings and winds.  We're supposed to be hit with the hardest one this afternoon.  Luckily, I will be back from picking my son up from school before then.

Heather, I'm hearing on the new, that California is under flash flood warning for today and some areas are in danger of mud slides. Its raining a little here in El Paso and cold.

Hi Heather, It looks like you're going to be getting more rain again today. The really bad stuff didn't make it as far north as Southern Oregon, we're just getting the high winds.

With all the wildfires we had in the summer and fall, Roy, there is not much undergrowth going on to soak up the rainfall.  So, flash flood warnings are definitely par for the course here.  We have an alternate route to go to my son's school in case the road is washed out.

This time, Gary, the news people are justified to be on "Storm Watch 2010".  Usually, a few raindrops and people get all crazy.  This time, it IS crazy!

Heather--Please stay safe & hopefully dry, but that sounds like an impossibility givent the forecast for the next few days.  I will be thinking of you and the guys.  All's quiet in the east right now.  Snow is slowly melting or compacting.  Maybe I shoud go for a walk before dark, but first I have to play in the Rain at AR.

Heather...The heavy rains in CA are certainly causing alot of problems----And as that rain moves eastward into the AZ mountains, it turns into snow.  We are getting dumped on here!  Stay warm and dry!

Heather - your storms, together with the snows and rains in AZ, make me feel blessed.  FOr today at least we've got sunny skies and over freezing temperatures.
