The 28th Annual Southeastern Wildlife Expo will be held February 12-14 in Historic Downtown Charleston. SEWE is one of my favorite events. With nearly 40,000 attendees last year it is one of the most popular events in South Carolina. The largest wildlife art and nature event in the country. But it is not all about Art. Sewe is much more than an art exhibit.
SEWE has something for everyone. There are outdoor presentations, demonstrations, and exhibits. Dealing with a variety of interests including conservation, preservation, hunting, and fishing. My kids enjoy the Retriever demonstration at Brittlebank Park and the Birds of Prey exhibit. Jack Hanna will have a presentation again this year. For the family chefs there are South Carolina Cooking Demos twice a day. I plan to watch several of the fly fishing and cast net demonstrations. I also enjoy the Sporting Village with over 50 sporting vendors. Restaurant Row in Marion Square will have local chefs promoting their signature dishes.
Kids have a blast at SEWE. Eudora Farms will have an exotic petting zoo. There will be camel and pony rides. Arts & Crafts and Science stations will be a fun and learning experience. For the older kids there will be a climbing wall and spider jump. The Edisto Island Serpentarium will have a snake display tent at Marion Square. Scana will have the Kids for Conservation entries on display. They had 4 contests this year: Nature Photography, Poetry, Custom Birdhouses, and Posters.
I forgot to tell you about the art. There will be over 120 artists displaying their work this year. Lectures will be: Watercolor by Jerry Raedeke and Plein Air Painting by Heiner Hertling. John Seery-Lester will host an presentation on his new book "Legends of the Hunt" and also Carl Brenders on his "Pride of Place". Robin Salmon, curator at Brookgreen Gardens, will present "American Animalier: A Brief History of Animal Sculpture in American".
