Dishwasher Do's and Don'ts

Don't run your dishwasher with less than a full load.

Do run it at night, when many power companies offer lower rates. In the summer, running a dishwasher at night when the weather is coller also saves on cooling costs.

Don't rinse off normally soiled dishes before you put them in the dishwasher; just scrape the food off.

Do use the lightest washing cycle for the dishes that aren't very dirty. It uses less hot water and energy.

Don't use more detergent than you need. Experiment to see how little you can use and still get clean dishes.

Do use the no-heat setting for drying. ( To add humidity to a dry home open the dorr of the dishwasher while allowing the dishes to air dry.)

Another good one!  More information for me to use as well as pass on.  Keep them comming they are very simple but helpful.  Appreciate it.

I think you're trying to help with the "going green" effort here? One problem though...

Some people can't use their dishwashers often enough if they don't have a large family or don't cook very often, which means the dishwasher can just stop working. I believe the pump stops working when it isn't regularly run. In that case, the owners will have to run theirs once in a while, or else lose it altogether.

If you live in a small household and don't have to wash dishes every day, it is useful to rinse the dishes off. Otherwise you sometimes have to run the dishwasher twice to get them clean. One of my pet peeves is getting clean dishes out of the dishwasher only to find food still on them.

I don't have your problem Russell, with young adult males still at home and all of their friends the dishwaher runs at least once a day and sometimes twice... Thanks for commenting everyone
