12 Comments on Stone Crab Night Tonight!!!
BarbaraJo, I'm in! Can you give me directions to your house?!
Wanda - Just head south, to Crystal Beach, directly on the Gulf of Mexico!!!
I really miss Joe's ... haven't been to Florida for about 3 years... maybe I'll need to plan to trip!!
BarbaraJo
I am so envious; everything I eat is frozen in Wisconsin. Come to think of it I think everything in Wisconsin is frozen.
And, they say that they break off one claw and through the animal back into the sea to grow another claw. DUH, i wonder how competitive a one-clawed stone crab is amongst the others at the bottom? Imagine a species that evolved for millennia with 2 claws and then "Man" turns them into One-Clawed Crabs. Maybe the 1-Claws form a club and work together so that every pair has 2 claws? It just doesn't add up biologically. What do you think, or are you just a consumer: "Don't bother me with the biology, these things are toooo good!"
Cheers, JIM!
OMG !!! I am so very jealous ! I can almost taste them! Truly, they are one of life's pleasures. Yummy!
John - come on down!!! The temperature is going up to 77 today!!!
Tom - that sure goes for you too!!! I can't imagine being up there right now!!!
James - good point, and I have thought of it. My partner says that they make it just fine and do indeed grow a new claw - he has been a fisherman his entire life, growing up in a family that owned 70 and 80 foot fishing boats that took tourists out from Clearwater - he is environmentally conscious and measures every fish we catch - if it is even close to the limit (and is technically a keeper) he still throws it back so it "can grow a little more" - so when he says they do just fine, I believe him-
Christine - They were indeed wonderful!!!
James - by the way, there are links on the internet showing that taking the claw does NOT endanger the stone crab - check it out -
Whoopeeeee. I'm there...
Sally - well, we are waiting for you!!!
Barbara Jo, I'll be right down! Never had stone crabs before!
Pat - Ron was surprised when I told him the same thing a few weeks ago !!! Reminds me of lobster tails, but what do I know.................
