If you are looking for information on Bend Oregon real estate or homes in Central Oregon, you might want to skip this post.  If you're keen on  more "musings of a mutt, " or want to learn a bit more about the Bend lifestyle, you are in the right place.

Canicular Days in Bend Oregon

It seems like ages since I last took pen in paw (put paw to paper? . . . always have been an alliteration fan!).  The too warm days of summer (some call them "the dog days"-that's a digression worthy of its own post, but I'll merely summarize . . . they were also called the "canicular days" after Sirius, the dog star.  In ancient Roman times, a brown dog-I hope not an Airedale-was even sacrificed to appease the wrath of Sirius, believing that the star was responsible for the sultry weather), have been replaced by the cooler, more colorful wonder of fall in Central Oregon.  As the weather cools further, my days of hunting are curtailed. My favorite quarry, the golden mantled ground squirrel (someday I'll actually catch one of those little bastards!)

My masters jetted off to Brazil, and left me to cavort with my buddies at Pet Paradise . . . it's sort of like hanging out at a giant dog park for two weeks; fun, but I need a little down time.  No wonder I'm hoarse!

Shevlin Park

Last week, we took a great hike-perhaps a final effort to enjoy the wonderful Central Oregon outdoor lifestyle before the onslaught of full winter.  We went to Shevlin Park

It's a pretty cool place . . . over 650 acres and just a couple of miles from downtown.  The park is a dog's haven; most of it is undeveloped.  There are tons of trails  . . . and Tumalo Creek rambles through.

There are also any number of foot bridges that allow humans and canines to zigzag back and forth across the creek, and also to access some of the newest portions of the park-specifically the Shevlin Conservation Easement, 44 acres at the eastern edge of the park.

Tumalo Creek is really beautiful.

I didn't see a lot of other dogs, and I stayed on my leash most of the time.  After we left Cougar Camp,

(I don't know my my master liked that name), I ran into some grouchy folks (how could anyone be grouchy on such a nice day in such a beautiful park?) who were sort of afraid of me.  They didn't have to be. I don't know why they yelled at me.

The park's trails are designed for both summer and winter access.  I'd love to come back again this winter.
