If you have had the wonderful experience of waiting for a month for a dental appointment at Eglin AFB, it seems your prayers are being answered. It's true, construction has already begun on a new clinic that will help support the base's growing and projected population and expanded mission of the 7th SFG and F35's have fueled the fire for the urgency for the facility, and hopefully it will reduce patient wait times. The projected completion date for the new clinic is expected sometime around fall next year.
Will it really reduce wait times? Well, there is a strong possibility that it may. What I'm hearing is that there will be a new two-story 31,000+ sqft building that will be co- located near the existing Hospital (which has also recently received upgrading), and the Fisher House that is also under construction.
The new clinic is projected to have 52 dental treatment rooms & a new dental laboratory. There may be some job availability as well, as they are looking to expand the existing 90-person staff by an additional 30 positions. The dental residency program also will be expanded when the new clinic opens, and that year long program is expected to grow from 6 and possibly to as many as 10 resident slots. The dental squadron at Eglin AFB is just one of 12 facilities within the entire Air Force to offer advanced training in general dentistry to recent dental school graduates.
When the new facility opens, the base will be going GREEN, by reusing the resources of the existing clinic for general medicine. Kudos to Eglin for that.
