I was minding my own business a couple of Saturdays ago when my wife called me to observe the Animal Channel. They were showing this dog called a Labradoodle that I had never heard of.

She has been pushing for a dog since we lost our beloved Lab Shephard to old age seven years ago. Becuase of an allergy problem I have I swore off cats and dogs. This new breed has hair, like a poodle, instead of the fur of a lab and is hypo-allergenic.

As a long shot I checked the local classifieds and there was one ad for a bredder moving here from Amarillo. The next thing I know we are looking at two black 12 week old males named Amos and Andy and two 7 week old creams that did not have names.

Following is the result and after 12 days we wouldn't trade him for the world. Let the fun begin!!

He looks like a keeper, that's for sure.  I'm glad you found another friend -- 7 years is a long time to be without a 4-legged one.

Hi Tom, That is a new breed of dog to me also! Your new puppy is adorable! Gosh, he is so cute! Just look at that face! Congratulations on the new addition to your family! By the way....what did you name him? Rita

Rita..

We named him Malachi ("Mali"). Our last puppy was in 1980 and we had forgot how much work is involved but in a few months it will be a faint memory.

More posts of him are coming because I want to have a history of his growth.

Hi Tom...I've known about the Labradoodle for some time now and would have been interested in acquiring one except we needed a smaller dog.  We now have two Cockapoos (cocker spaniel and poodle mix).  They are nine months old now and still a hand full.

How old is Mali?  You were lucky to find him so quickly.

Enjoy.

Kate,

We were indeed very, very lucky. My wife saw a show on the Labradoodle on the animal channel on a Saturday morning. I looked in the Sunday mroning paper and found an ad for a lady moving here from Amarillo who had two 12 week old black males. I called and we went to see them on Monday at a farm just 15 minutes away. She ended up bringing two creams, a male and female later that week so by Saturday a week from the TV show we had a labradoodle. He was 7 1/2 weeks at the time and now he is 10 weeks today. She is selling two of the four and training the other two as service dogs.

We have started puppy training and he is already sitting, lying, staying and coming. Maybe that is not unusual but we are amazed and think he is pretty smart.
