Think Like a Tree

Point Reyes Trees

Last evening I was in mood for a little poetry.  I came across this inspirational poem by Karen I. Shragg.  The title is "Think Like a Tree."

Soak up the sun
Affirm life's magic
Be graceful in the wind
Stand tall after a storm
Feel refreshed after it rains
Grow strong without notice
Be prepared for each season
Provide shelter to strangers
Hang tough through a cold spell
Emerge renewed at the first signs of spring
Stay deeply rooted while reaching for the sky
Be still long enough to
hear your own leaves rustling.

These are amazing trees, Myrl! I love the photos. And the poem is beatiful - words to live by, whether you're a tree, or a person!

We have lots of trees here, but nothing like these.  Where were when you took these photos?  The canopy over the road has a magical quality.

Merl, what amazing photos.  Now if we could all be like those trees - bending towards each other to meet halfway - wouldn't that be great!

Candice - When I came upon that grove of trees, my car found its brakes in a hurry:-)

Steve - The photos were taken near Point Reyes National Seashore.  That's a long long way from Scotland - but near Inverness, California.  I know you have an Inverness, Scotland as well!  As an aside, some of my ancestors were from Scotland (along the River Clyde, I think).  Most of my family has been in this country prior to 1650.  I am Scottish, Irish, Dutch, French, German and English.

Kevin and Fred - I could handle having it as the driveway to my home - no problem:-)

Debi - I'm glad you like the trees.  They are Cypress, which is fairly abundant along the California coast.

Ann - The trees are Cypress.  The place is close to Point Reyes National Seashore, north of San Francisco.

Lora - Ah yes, the bending toward each other is such a wonderful thought.  I certainly wish our politicians could be more like that.  Unfortunately, they can't raise special interest or lobby money as well, unless they maintain being polar opposites of each other. . .Isn't that sad!

Hi Myrl, Love that poem, and the photos.  I think I will think like a tree :-)  I too, love the long driveway shot, such a welcoming entry.

The trees make quite an impressive canopy; I would expect to find a house with one of those large wrap-around porches with plenty of outdoor seating, and a large backyard that tumbles down to the water.

Myrl,

I love the sturdiness of those trees. Even with their twisting and bending, they are so stout. :)

Myrl, This is an amazing street with these incredible old trees lining it.  Every tree has a story.  Oh, if only they could talk, what a tale they would tell. Beautiful poem.

Wow!  These look almost like the banyan trees I saw in Hawaii!  The trunks are so, well, multiple!

Myrl:  What a great set of photos... and what a great poem.  Strangely enough... while I loved the whole tone of the poem and all it had to offer... the wisdom in the last two lines really caught my attention.

"Be still long enough to hear your own leaves rustling."  Being still is a talent and an activity that is so ignored... and so worthwhile.  Great post... great photos.

This is a fantastic shot. The poem is nice, but a picture tells a thousand words.
