New HUD Unit to Oversee Lending

To look into possible discriminatory practices by mortgage companies, HUD has established a fair-lending unit staffed by an economist and five fair-lending experts. In addition to investigating complaints, the division will examine lending patterns for evidence of bias.

My notes:  I think this is a long time coming!  Hopefully when they set this up they will come up with reform that will govern all lending entities.  Also, Hopefully they will be able to enforce punishment when exposing poor lending behaviors.  If they are unable to do so what good would this new unit be?  One has to wonder if this is just smoke and mirrors so it looks like HUD is actively engaging the mess that is the Mortgage Industry right now.  HUD Please start with Builders Incentives to "Preferred Lenders!"
