Anyone Want to Look at Homes Today? Sorry, can't get there from here!

Hello?  Oh Hello Mr. & Mrs. Buyer.  You want to look at that new listing, hum, how nice.  Sure let's go.  Oh but wait, I'm afraid that won't be possible today, you see, I can't get to my truck.  I have to shovel 5+ feet of snow first just to get to the vehicle, and then I have to dig out that 30 feet of driveway that drifted full last night, and um....the plow hasn't gone through yet so I'll have to dig out again.  How about we do that next week, maybe......would that work for you?

Believe it or not there were agents out in this storm yesterday showing property.  I can't imagine putting a client in my car and driving on icy roads, and then asking them to wade through three or four feet of snow to get in to a cold house just to try and sell a house.  I love Real Estate but....there are limits to how much I am willing to risk just to do it.

Any thoughts?

I wish I could say it is over but it's not.  We are expecting more tonight and tomorrow.  It is a lot of snow and even having grown up in snow country of upstate New York, this is a record in my books too.  We had four feet in one storm a few years ago but it didn't last long.  This has been quite an incredible storm.

We got about a foot or so- the problem is it came on top of about 10 inches of rain whic created ice under the snow. I couldn't get my SUV out of my driveway Friday, neither could my husband. We went to the office in his jeep, and slid around most of the way. It;s awfully pretty, though. We DIDN'T show houses, although we did have a few fools ask.

Hello Everyone,

All totaled I think we got about 5 feet of the white stuff here in Lakeside.  From all reports that is the heaviest snowfall in this area in close to 40 years.  We got rain in the middle too so there is a lot of ice under the snow.  Finally got the drive cleared out this morning but even at that we are hesitant to go anywhere because the rest of the roads are still a mess.  From what I hear the area where my office is located is still buried.  I am not sure I could get there if I wanted to.

Here are some pictures of our place.

Wow. They say its the 2nd largest storm on record up there. That's a once in a lifetime experience. Hopefully, they can clear it out at some point so you can get back to showing homes! Good luck

Hello Everyone,

We are finally beginning to see movement again here on the Mountain.  The plows and the fellows with plows on their trucks and Bobcats have been kept very very busy.  As of Sunday there were still many areas without power and the roads still were not passable.  Some schools have been closed for the past week and some were still closed yesterday for snow clean-up operations and for shoveling snow off the roofs so they wouldn't collapse.

We did lose a few buildings.  If you want to see more pictures of the Big Snow of 2010 in the White Mountains.  Go to our local newspaper site: www.wmicentral.com  They have been collecting photos from everyone and there is a great slide show of the area.

I have to say, I have had more adventures of a questionable nature since moving here than I had in my entire life prior to moving to the White Mountains in 2002.  First we had the big forest fire and had to evacuate an entire community, us included, in 2002.  Then we had our first big snow in 2005 and were quite literally snowed in for four days.  This snow made that one look like flurries but never-the-less, having grown up in what I thought was snow country in upstate New York, this has made the snows of my youth look like nothing in comparison.

Spring is coming, or so they say.  This year I have to say it can't come too soon to suit me.

Have a wonderful week everyone.  Send some of those low land clients who want to escape the heat of the summer our way.

Thanks for reading.
