time to find your "happy place"

Discussing 1st time home buying, tax credit, and more...

What an exciting time it is when you decide that you're going to look into the possibility of purchasing your first home.  And perhaps that decision to start the process was made with a bit of trepidation.  Just the thought of owning your own home can be exciting, scary, and at times seem impossible.

The 1st time home buyers tax credit has enticed quite a few to start looking into the process.  With inventory decent, rates almost ridiculously low, and the possibility of an $8,000 tax credit your timing is perfect!

There are so many reasons that home ownership is so appealing.  I've often heard "I want some peace and quiet.  I can hear everything through these paper thin apartment walls!"  How true that is.  It IS sweet to be able to turn the music up or the bass on your speakers while watching Jurassic Park and NOT have to worry you'll bother the tenants downstairs!

Now I've also heard that talking with a REALTOR can be intimidating.  I sure hope not.  The job of your buyers agent is to gather all the facts from you and for you.  Then it's our job to guide you in the right direction, starting with speaking with a qualified lender.

Once you know how much you qualify for and want to spend on your new home then it's up to us to prepare homes for you to see that match your parameters.  Our job is to be open and honest about what you can expect.  It's up to us to find you a home within your means, that's a good value in a neighborhood that you like, and that fits your lifestyle.

It's also our job as your REALTOR to do more.  Here's some of the things I think you should expect from your REALTOR:put the pen to paper

  • help to manage your expectations
  • help with what you will or won't have to compromise on
  • help with dealing with distractions
  • help determine the value of the home
  • help explaining how to put together an offer to purchase
  • help negotiate NOT only the price but the home repairs
  • and to watch your back.  When you get ready to sell will they be able to sell it for you

Starting the journey to home ownership is an exciting time filled with all kinds of emotions.  Homes are our happy places and we all want someplace to call our own...

There are countless reasons to use a Realtor but the most important remains to be a guide to answer all their questions in an accurate and professional manner.

I brought this up at my sales meeting and it is a conversation we need to have with every buyer.
