Gainesville homeowner finds squirrel in toilet

Squirrel

Several weeks ago, while I was in holiday elf mode delivering gifts to my customers, I was regaled with the freakiest homeowner tale I have heard in quite a while.

Seems that my buddy (let's just call her OMG) got the surprise of her life coming home from work one day.  She explained that they keep all of the toilet lids closed in the house as a babyproofing measure.

Returning home from work, she went to use the bathroom, lifted up the lid, and saw some lifeless furry thing inside the bowl.

She slammed down the lid, called her husband, and announced there was a dead squirrel in their toilet.

He didn't believe her until he got home to fish the corpse out of the bowl.

How did a squirrel get in their toilet??

Well, apparently, this is not an isolated incident.

The best way to keep squirrels (and frogs, apparently) out of your toilet?  Put a screen cover on your roof vent.

Oh. And Make Sure You Look Down First.

Coleen, poor squirrel!  Wonder if it was any relation to Nutsy?

Squirrels and frogs in the toilet.  What a horrific thought.  I'll definitely look down from now on.

Pat - I don't think it was related to Nutsy, as it wasn't wearing any clothes.  I felt bad for the squirrel at first too, but then thought how much worse it would have been if they had a wet and angry squirrel on the rampage in their house.

Stacey -  Good plan.  :)

I am most upset.  Those guys are so cute.  Especially on the golf course where they sit there and beg for food.  They are quite adorable.  Did I say I was upset!

Jane - I know. What a gruesome way to go.  You can bet my friend ran right out to Home Depot for a screen cover for her roof vent.

I once found a dead possum in the closet. The dog had brought it in during the night.

Hi Coleen ~ Who knew?! Bummer that the squirrel died. I love squirrels. Not that I wouldn't get freaked out if one was in the toilet.  Yeegads.

Hi Liz - I don't know what's worse....leaving the lid down, ensuring certain death to scuba squirrels....or leaving the lid open, and finding a wet, angry rodent tearing up your house when you get home.  Either way, not pretty.  My friend felt really bad. :(
