Wondering what's for lunch?

According to the National Restaurant Association, here's some interesting statistics about how we eat lunch:What's for Lunch

  • Over 27 percent of full-time employees frequently spend their lunch break doing things other than eating.
  • 45 percent of employed adults feel that they have less time for lunch than they used to.
  • In a typical week, 29 percent of male workers eat in a sit-down restaurant at least once; 26 percent of women do.
  • Almost 65 percent of employed workers eat a meal that can be held in the hand, such as a burger or sandwich.
  • 50 percent of working adults bring lunch to work at least one time per week.

Where do you fall in these statistics?

Please share any statistics you know of.

Pamela...interesting stats...if the stats [on sit-down meals] are true then WHO are all those folks playing 'dodge-um cars' on our major roadways.  I love stats; they are fun to read; they are interesting to see if they apply to my life or to the area in which we live.  WHOOPS! I don't have any stats to add, so did I flunk your post.  It is interesting reading either way. a small lol on me.

Hi Dawn - I guess that would make you one of the 50% who bring their lunch at least once a week.  Very thrifty.

Hi Barb and Sal - I really enjoy stats, too.  Maybe the dodge 'em cars are hurrying to get home to a good meal. ;)  No, you didn't flunk the test - your response made up for it.  A for effort.  Thanks for responding.

I eat lunch in about 10-15 minutes most workdays sitting away from my desk while  placing a call to my Mom so I get to talk to her each day!

I'm one of those that does my best to take a lunch break - usually with a client or biz associate.  Working straight through just drives me bonkers.  Cool stats!

BTW - you gals have fun Tomorrow with Carra!

Hi Cheryl - I get so busy sometimes I forget to eat.  How awful is that?!  Such a great thing - talking to Mom while having lunch.  Maybe you both could Skype lunch one day.  That would be fun!

Hi Anna - I need to work on getting away from desk to have lunch.  When I remember to eat, I'm usually in the middle of something I really don't want to stop working on.  BTW - I just talked to Carra.  Tomorrow is going to be great.  Wish you could be there, too!  We really need to get together again soon.

Hi Susan - I fit into a couple of the statistics but since I have a home office, my stats don't always fit in.  Thanx for responding.

I don't know what percentage of the population was polled on this but I find the number of people that bring their own lunch to work very low.

Pam...your stats are very interesting.  I too wonder who is driving around in all those cars when it's lunch time if they aren't headed for a restaurant.  Maybe they are just driving around eating their lunch!  lol

Hi Carra - When I was a Western Regional Director for a non-profit health organization (many moons ago), I traveled throughout western Arizona a lot.  So, I know what it's like to have to eat while driving.  Fortunately, I don't have to do that anymore.  My commute to work is sooooo much closer. ;)

Hi Michael - Looks like you're killing two birds with one stone.  I've heard the supermarket is a good place for singles to meet - hadn't heard about it being a good place for social farming. :)
