The Pope's Message to Priests......"We Must BLOG!"

And the Pope said ";Let there be BLOG!"; Social Media has become such an integral part of our lives that Pope Benedict XVI has a message for all the Priests of the Catholic Church ";They must proclaim the gospel by not only having a website, but by blogging and utilizing new web communication tools";.

The church has realized that it needs to go where the people are.....ONLINE!  Encouraging priests to blog will supplement the iphone application, Facebook Fan Page and You-Tube video's the Vatican already has. I understand he is not on Twitter yet though, But I bet he will be soon.

Here’s a small excerpt from the entire message from the Pope:

“The spread of multimedia communications and its rich ‘menu of options’ might make us think it sufficient simply to be present on the Web, or to see it only as a space to be filled. Yet priests can rightly be expected to be present in the world of digital communications as faithful witnesses to the Gospel, exercising their proper role as leaders of communities which increasingly express themselves with the different ‘voices’ provided by the digital marketplace. Priests are thus challenged to proclaim the Gospel by employing the latest generation of audiovisual resources (images, videos, animated features, blogs, websites) which, alongside traditional means, can open up broad new vistas for dialogue, evangelization and catechesis.”

The Pope has obviously realized something that some Realtors and lenders have not ";Reaching new customers requires going places where they spend most of their time and converse";.

I think the Pope's statement emphasizes the importance of Social Media. I am still puzzled as to why I continually meet with industry professionals that tell me ";I just don't have time";, to which I will now reply ";Hey, If the Pope can make time for Social Media......so can you!";

Wow, that's hard to believe. Nice to know the Catholic Church is on board the social media train!

Morning Stephen,  How ironic and symbolic that the church would be so cutting edge in this area.

If I were Pope, I would make it so I did not have to wear funny costume in public.  Also, I would make law that cash for keys minimum is something like $40,000.  In Romania, there is this guy that I trust way more than the Pope.  He told me he likes the book of face to find many concubines.

It makes perfect sense.  The Church (and I am not just talking Catholic) has been changing to meet the culture over the years.  Many church services are mutli media presentations.  What is important is the message and you have to get the message to people in a way they will hear it.

I have been asked by my manager to do a presentation to my office on social media...boy did your post give me a great setup/lead in for all the stick in the muds!

Your post made me think of a song from the musical from Jesus Christ Superstar - one of the lines talks about how back then they "had no mass communication"...

Twitter name:  The Papa

Great post. thanks!

Goes to show where all the people are! If the Pope can recognize the importance of connecting through technology.....nothing more needed to be said!

Stephen:  Ahhh... Pope Benedict XVI.  Although he is NOT one of my favorite people... and although I am appalled that he is forcibly dragging the Catholic Church back into the Dark Ages... he is correct on the necessity of blogging.  It is the way to go... and a simply awesome way to get one's point of view out in the blog-o-sphere.

Thanks for all your comments. I am pleasantly surprised to see that no one took this post as blasphemy.  The Vatican is very smart, go where the people are. I hope that more Realtors and Lenders take that advice and start embracing blogging and other social media mediums. On the other hand, If they don't start blogging it means more business for my clients....LOL.  Thanks you again, have a great week.  @ Dean, I'm glad you figured it out and happy you found "MyTitleGuy".  See you at your UBG Grand Opening tonight in Chandler. What's the address again?
