Without the downs in life, would we have the proper perspective to appreciate the ups?
More to the point . . . Without the ups, life would be blah . . . not all downs - just blah!
Life is dynamic.
Ebb & Flow
Yin & Yang
Frick & Frack
Good, bad, & ugly
Win - lose - tie
IN & OUT
We live in a world of a sea of surprises, and it's how we roll with these tides that builds our character and our ability to keep on movin' down the road.
Funky - Funky - Funky
Ever get yourself in a funk?
Ever find yourself hating the world and everything about it?
When that happens, most folks can conjure up hallucinations of "ALL BAD -NO GOOD!"
How do you snap yourself out of this?
As with anything worth doing, this requires some PRACTICE.
It requires the same purposeful sequence actions that most anything else requires.
1. Acknowledge (name) the problem sooner than later. Don't let it fester because the longer you stay in FUNK, the less attentive you'll be to what and who really MATTERS in your life.
2. Have a SYSTEM for dealing with with FUNK. For me, it means "dropping and running" . . . Drop whatever it is that I am doing and LEAVE for a walk . . . WITHOUT the phone . . . I use that walk as "alone time" to sift through the garbage in my head and cleanse it meditatively.
that's my medicine - What's yours?
3. Return to the issue with clear head and deal with it (Take ACTION) from the newly cleansed perspective.
4. Celebrate your recovery from FUNK and thank the funk monster for popping in to re-align your perspective.
As much as we all want everything to stay just the way it is . . . forever . . .That's not reality.
INTENTIONALLY develop your own FRP (Funk Relief Plan) and PRACTICE it FREQUENTLY until it becomes 2nd nature for you.
Deb & I attended the celebration of the life of Mark Edwards yesterday afternoon. I never knew Mark, but I now know that he was a man who knew exactly what to do with funk.
Usually when you hear of a "Celebration of the life of" you expect an hour long funeral or memorial service with plenty of opportunities for tears and sad stories . . .
Not this one . . .
When we got to the church, the sanctuary was empty, and we were directed to go to the basement where we found the Fellowship Hall set with tables and chairs and a full complement of musical instruments and sound system in the corner.
We had walked into a REAL CELEBRATION - BBQ and LIVE MUSIC for 3 hours (or so).
This was Mark's wish, and ALL of his life-long friends and family showed up and had a blast.
Now THERE's a guy whose funk perspective is well practiced.
Keep practicing!
I'm just sayin'
Best,
b

Great post! The "funks" jump up and get me sometimes too, one of the things that helps me is to write a short list (maybe 5 or so items) of what I am grateful for in my life and business. It is impossible to feel sorry for myself if I am feeling grateful, I promise it works!
