Did Your Parents Drive You, Neglect You, Push You To Go Over The Top To Succeed Or Else?

Your best growing up. Was it good enough for your parents? Were your parents even in the picture? What makes you tick?

Did a blog on health care reform and the need for taking a front end preventative illness approach early on. Rather than last minute million dollar try to save the patient maneuvers in our nation's hospitals. We fix the symptoms, rather than head them off at the pass early on in health class, living by example. Our kids watch us, copy us. And if pulling in to a fast food venue on two wheels and racing to the next sporting event on a kid's over booked schedule is what we show them, they crank it up and do that and more with their maine beach,me kids ocean playingkids.

Is it a sense of pride to have your kid be the blue ribbon winner in every life contest and challenge?

Priorites, values, what really matters and a game plan for the family. Is it the kids performance that is the source of pride? Or the reflection on the parent that is the primary or the secondary gain?

Is the family home or on the road? With 50 percent divorce rate, shuffling kids here and there between two or more homes, maybe the Disney dads and moms are trying too hard to juggle it all. Could be part of the reason for the obesity, chain smoking, having to have a drink in your hand. Lifestyle and how it causes the body parts to one by one break down and cease functioning.

The bible reminds us your body is a temple. Take good care of it, be a watchful steward. How important acadia park, maine cadillac mountainare your kidneys, heart, liver to you? Have you checked the price lately on Ebay for used body parts?

Health care reform and cost reduction needs components of health education, advertising campaigns as agressive as the chicken lickin' outlets that dot our strip malls, downtowns and highways.

Weight reduction, smoking eradication, health education and new lifestyles that promote relaxation. Doing family quiet time without Nascar race track paced living. Was any of that on your New Year's resolution that was placed on your refrigerator list three weeks ago?

Where you live makes a difference too. Can you say stress, traffic, smog, just too many people packed like sardines..shoulder to shoulder? Sure you can. I knew you could. That is where a rural state like Maine with family values, community spirit, and caring for others is the rule along with four season clean air to fill your lungs. Get here just as quick as you can. Less stress and more wide open living space to stretch out and relax is a start to better living. Come sample our four season beauty, the friendlier but way way fewer in number hard working folks who live in "Vacationland". I whole heartedly believe there was no better place to raise our four children than in Maine. Everything you need for outdoor fun is right here in our backyard. Three dollars of gas away from where the kids sleep at night anywhere in this state in the right hand corner of the country.

Good points. We limit our children activities to two per child.  We eat as a family, teach them proper nutrition and the value of not over-extending yourself because others are.  And I have been with my wife since I was 14 and will be with her till the day I die.  So it's working for me.

My mother sacrificed to send me to a GREAT private school for 10, 11, 12 grades * I can't imagine the new dresses, latest appliances and dinners out she and my father gave up for me to get a WONDERFUL education.  I appreciate that so much and it transposed to my love of reading, interest in the world AND wanting to give back to my community by voluntarism.

Jason, the family meal and how did you day go, catch up and sharing is so important. Switchthe tv off and no trays in front of the tube with droaning out kids and parents locked on and tuned out. You sound like you and your wife have it all together and the kids will turn out the same way. Not many serial killer kids or bad eggs...just poor or no parenting or conditioning growing up right?

Wallace, sacrifice without being a matyr about it. Ever watch Nanny 911? Lot of martyr parents screaming "you are driving me crazy, I wish I was at work" and kids running around out of control like wild animals. Poor parenting the root of much of the problems and two parents not on the same page or even in the same book on how to raise kids. If you had a good upbringing it helps..just repeat performance of what you saw, enjoyed. Knowing you are loved, accepted and a big part of the family, contributing with chores, care of the home are key. You were a grateful kid and knew the score.

Bravo to you Andrew!! This post was truly written by a DAD!! I love it and that's why we pulled our kids out of the suburban chaos of "keeping up with the Jones" mentality. My kids think a lot more independently and have not once asked me for any brand name clothing! We go everywhere as a family and my husband of 17 years works side by side with me at home as a programmer/developer. I took the kids to Disney once. It was great, but why would we need to go back 6 more times when there are plenty of fabulous parks and museums in the country?

I'm an agent but I'm a MOM first!
