The Ann Arbor Art Fairs are almost here, July 18-21, all over the downtown and E. and S. Universities area. Please note that this is in reality 4 ART fairs, all held at the same time each year and Ann Arbor pulls in over 500,000 visitors each year.

The Four Art Fairs are:

Ann Arbor Street Art Fair

Ann Arbor State Street Art Fair

                                                                  Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair

                                                                  South University Art Fair

Do most visitors know that this is really 4 Art Fairs ? NO  Do they care? NO All everyone cares about is the art fair is the one of the biggest in the county. Many local people don't like the art fairs, too much traffic, no parking etc. But, it has become a huge event in Ann Arbor.

To combat some of the complaints there is now a TOWNIE Party held before the Art Fairs open on Wednesdays. This year is is being held on Monday, July 16th from 5-9 adjacent to the Michigan Ingalls Mall, ( across from the Diag) on central campus at University of Michigan. There are numerous local businesses that sponsor the Townie Party. This year there will be art exhibits from local school children around the Washtenaw County Area. There will be music sponsored by the Ark. The parking meters will be bagged for FREE parking to the people attending.

Plan Your Trip, if you are coming from outside the area. We local people know the short cuts around and secret hiding places to park but for visitors.

This is the official poster for this years Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, created by Nancy Gardner and Burton Isenstein. Art Fair Official Poster

If you are anywhere in Michigan or Ohio or really love Art, these are the Art Fairs you should plan on attending. It is always held the second week in July so if not this year, maybe next. The 175 artists participating can be seen in this artist directory.

Missy, I love art fairs, but I am not going to be in that area. You see I can't afford another vacation.

Missy... I like Art and such. Philly has some of these things on some of their streets throughout the summer. My town of Haddonfield even has two different Art fairs a year.  thanks for sharing this.

Jeff Belonger, they are fun, I like to go, watch the people and eat corn dogs !

Gary, you know it always rains at least one day at the Ann Arbor Art Fair.

Allison, thanks we use to take my babies in strollers, NOT a good idea, too crowded and all they could see was legs !

Jeff, I grew up eating corn dogs in the South, don't see them so much up here.

Teri, thanks we do enjoy going, but the traffice is awful especially if your trying to show houses, lofts or condo's in Ann Arbor, can't be done.

Sounds like a really fun time.  Activities such as this are what make a town an exciting, vibrant place to live.

I love the Ann Arbor Art Fair and I will be there.  My nephew (who goes to U of M) and my sister-in-law are meeting there on Friday with a couple of others - I know it will be fun and hope the weather is like it has been the last few day.  I have a friend who wants to go with her children so I am going to forward this link so thanks for the post.
