20 Comments on I may just be in love...
Alan - It does look very slick indeed. I will probably wait for the second generation version, since I've seen so many people get burned by first gen iPods and iPhones (I have 2nd version of both).
I just watched the video - awesome product. The pricing was different with what I saw on the Apple site - it starts at $499 and caps out at $829 according to their chart.
I cracked up at the announced pricing as we were set for about a grand each! I am a Macbook pro fan so will stick with it for now but the ipad has a lot pf great things to offer!
Alan, I just saw it on the news! It sure looks like a whole lot of possibilities for our business!! They will probably fly off the shelves when they are available!
Alan - When I heard the price I was totally surprised and very impressed. I love what this device is and what it is capable of. I was REALLY hoping for a fully functioning tablet computer but it is obvious that they were shooting for the Kindle market and they just got it and more! The Kindle will have to sell for MUCH less now in order to compete with the iPad. I am guessing that the profit margin on this product is extremely low and Apple is counting on iTunes, App store and the eBooks to create the revenue similar to how the iPod shuffle works for Apple.
Hi Alan - Haven't watched the video yet, but everything you describe can also be done on my existing laptop. The touchscreen and size are good benefits; my concern is that this is geared more to receive rather than send information. I'm still interested to find out more and see how others use it, and there should be a lot of online coverage over the next 60 days.
Alan...
I'd like to see one and give it a test drive before I arrive at any conclusion, but it looks pretty cool!
You did not learn from Adam, Alan. Tempted and succumbing to the apple. Oh, and it is on TV as I type. They are talking about the name comparison to a certain women's product. As you would say, "just sayin."
Hey Alan, 10 hours of battery life would be wonderful. I will have to check the Ipad out.
Jason - I, too, have been burned by first editions.
Russell - the pricing was a surprise... a little lower than expected.
Caren - no reason to think it will be any different than apple's other products.
Sam - it wasn't designed to remove the need for a laptop... just a different use. But the Kindle better watch out.
John - yes, everything can be done by your laptop... by differently... (watch the video).
Richard - I'd like to see one first, too... I won't be buying blindly.
Jane - I guess the i-tablet sounded too clumsy.
Liz - if you can believe them.
Awesome. Amazing. Just how I felt when the iPhone came out.
And, I think the kindle and nook and sony reader folks just got trumped.
Alan,
OOOOOOOOO is about what I think. I am glad you cleared it up about the price. I was afraid these things were going to be over $1,000.
Alan - You are right and I admire the direction that Apple took. With the price points they selected this product is going to be really huge. With all the media hype that has been surrounding the so called Apple Tablet I was just hoping for an actual Apple tablet computer. I do believe where the iPad could really shine is in the arena of cloud computing.
My only question is about the internet -- will we have to pay a monthly access fee like a netbook, or is it only wireless (so I can't really use it everywhere)?
In any case, I am REALLY excited!
I waited for several months to get an iphone and then wondered how I lived without it all these years - guess I will have to start watching for the IPad next! Yummy!
Oh I just had a friend tell me about this tonight! How cool!
I saw it on the news and of course drooled! I love toys :)
Mike - "trumped" it is. Maybe "crushed" is a better word.
Larry - it's less expensive than the rumours were... they anticipated it was going to begin somewhere around $750.00
Sam - it's awfully close to a full-function computer... we'll have to see if the Microsoft Courier does anything to damage the ipad's sales, when it finally comes out (or IF if ever comes out).
Shana - it is BOTH... you can purchase it as wi-fi only, or with a $60/month AT&T service for G3.... wild, eh?
Lise - the scary part is, that I don't even have an i-phone.... yet.
Liz - yes you did.... me!
Jackie - you still have a touch on your chin.
Alan,
Brilliant idea to use it for listing presentations! How cool is that. When I got my first job 22 years ago at IBM they asked what tools we needed to do our jobs. They weren't too happy when I suggested a MAC! I think IBM makes wonderful large and mid range system, but APPLE just truly rocks.
All the best, Michelle
Michelle - apple has always paid a lot of attention to making their machines easy to use, powerful and sexy.
