A new listing came on the market yesterday on Pitcher Lane in Red Hook, NY.  A classic 1850 farmhouse and I immediately sent the information out to a client looking for a property in that period.  Today the agent held the open house and I made sure to attend.  When I am out and about doing my real estate activities I also take a bit of time to look at things around and many times these items turn into a photo subject. When I left the open house I was passing by some antique equipment; I have always admired them but today I took a closer look.

Antique 1930's Dump Rake Red Hook NY

Thankfully, this piece of antique equipment had a tag which provided the following information - Mid 1930's Dump Rake.  I have since discovered this was used to rake hay.

Other Equipment

Mullboard Plow

John Deere Sickle Bar Horse Drawn Mower

Jennifer - Cool Picture!  I wonder how long it took them to rake hay with that.

There you go - capturing what others would just overlook!  This has got to be your niche... photography.  It compliments very well what you are doing in Real Estate.

What a cool picture Jennifer. I saw one of those this past summer but had no clue what it was.

Jennifer, Great photos.  We had some of these on the ranch where I grew up.  It is a style that was originally pulled by horses.  This one looks like it was pulled by a tractor.  As tractors took over, the rakes grew bigger.  I drove a tractor a couple of summers pulling one that was 21 feet long or almost three times as big as this one.

Jennifer, I can't imagine how much fun it would have been using that :)  Still, it's wonderful that they kept a terrific piece of history.

Hi Jennifer... I just can't help looking at that pic and thinking how the 1930's was obviously not ergonomically friendly era!  LOL.

Michelle probably a very long time.

Diane it is something I love doing and what's the point if I don't share these treasures.

Monika I am glad this had a tag on it, or else I would not have had a clue.

Lynda I agree, and stuff most people probably don't give a second thought to.

Gary Thanks for adding to this conversation.  I was hoping someone would know more about this rake.

A large rake make sense as the work would get done faster and that is what most business people thrive for, better efficiency.

William me too, now that I dicovered the tag.  :)

Carole the words that I can think of are: Hard work

Steve I don't think they gave it much thought, this was corporate america  buzz word in the 80's or 90's after workers began to have lots of problem because of working on computers all day.  I remeber my office getting these rather expensive chairs.

Guy That is true, there use to be a lot of farmland and this piece of equipment was an important farm asset.

Debi me too.

Tony and Darcy Now I am expecting to see some photos..:)

The house I looked at was rather beautiful. It is the ideal second home for some, with a price tag of over $900,000.

Looks like the hay rake I used to climb on as a young child, and which resulted in a nice puncture in my arm that resulted in my first tetanus shot! Thanks for the memories -- LOL.
