After some great response to my recent blog post on how to select your Real estate agent in Ottawa I think it's time to go over some of the qualities and traits that should be present in a great Realtor.

Now everyone will have differences of opinions therefore these are my top pics and my personal views. I believe that there will be different qualities your Real estate agent in Ottawa should have depending on if you're Buying OR Selling a home.

When selling your home in Ottawa here are a few qualities to look for in your Realtor:
   1) Someone who will ojectively evaluate your home. Based on market information and current trends they will suggest a fair listing price. It may not be what you want to hear - but what you need to hear.
   2) Someone with communication skills is EXTREAMELY important. Selling your home is a stressful process. A Real estate agent in Ottawa who promptly returns phone calls and correctly answers questions is a key ingredient to a successful sale.
   3) Someone who can suggest quick and easy low cost improvements to help expedite your sale. They can also identify major defects that would need to be addressed before your home hits the market.
   4) Someone who is surrounded by a great network of competent, affordable and professional individuals to help you throughout the selling process.

When buying a home in Ottawa here are a few qualities to look for in your Realtor:
   1) Someone who really listens to your wants, needs, dreams and desires. They will also dig deeper to see what is driving those needs & wants.
   2) Someone with strong negotiating skills who will help you purchase your new home for fair market value; a great deal is also nice (but there are few & far between).
   3) Someone who communicates effectively and promptly. A Real estate agent in Ottawa who doesn't return your calls promptly will definitely impair your ability to find your new home.
   4) Someone who is conscious about your motivation and help you through the buying process will be invaluable when buying a home.

Whether you're buying or selling it's important to find an agent you like & trust and who would never pressure you into making a deal to suit their personal interests or commission. An excellent Real estate agent in Ottawa will be mindful of the importance of building great client relationships in order to preserve their client-base and referrals for years to come.
