Ahh, beautiful Park Slope. Right next to Prospect Park, brownstones, village-like shops and, wait, is that a baby in the bar? This has sparked quite a few heated conversations everywhere, here and online. Is it PC for a parent to go running for the shelter of her mother’s little helper? These people were also called “breeders” in another article I spotted on “Gothamist.” Damn, this is a tough crowd!!!
I have been to many bars around the world and have never heard of this nonsense! Bars are local gathering places where people do bring their families, meet friends and have a pint or two and a small meal. No harm, no foul. In England it’s called a “pub” which is short for “public house.” It’s not rare to find a mom or dad with the kids there watching a local soccer team for a few hours.
In the famous words of Rodney King, “Can’t we all just get along?” There are quite a few bars in the Slope. If you don’t like one, go to another! You’ll definitely find one where you will be comfortable. As for the word “breeders” - you have got to be kidding me! Park Slope/Brooklyn Heights is one of the best places to raise a child! The schools here are exceptional. Breed away!
But if you see these hooligans in JJ Byrne Park on 5th, call the police… They are very dangerous!
As for the war going on between Hanco’s and Herny’s for the best Vietnamese banh mi sandwich, go to Henry’s. They both taste pretty much the same but Henry’s is slightly cheaper. I myself prefer a Cuban sandwich from The Cubana Café’ on Smith Street.
