Staying ahead of the Tech game: Apple's new iPad

If you're a web junkie like me, you've heard of the iPad from Apple by now. When I first saw it, I was pretty surprised at the boldness of Apple to introduce a whole new platform when the economy isn't what it used to be. I mean come on, so many people already practically sold their souls for an iPhone, an iPod and even and iMac. Now Steve Jobs is telling me that I need to dream about yet another Apple product taking up valuable time and resources? At first glance I was disgusted. But upon a closer look and with a little more consideration I can now see why it may just be the way of the future.

Apple's iPad
So many of us are weighed down with our electronics. Right now most of us carry:
  • Cellphones (with Bluetooth headset)
  • MP3 players
  • Cameras
  • Laptops
  • Digital Assistants and Planners
  • Who knows what else?
We're just stuck with all this technology to carry around. That's where the iPadcomes in. Take for instance a real estate agent in Huntington Beach. These days you've got to be at the top of not only the real estate market but even social networking at potentially hundreds of sites. You have to be able to get instant information about the market and new properties at a moments notice and in many ways you're limited by the difficulty of making all the technologies you use, work together.

Just Imagine: You're selling homes or condos in Huntington Beach and you meet a new client. They're interested in some very specific things and you take them out to see some property. Imagine being able to view full web pages of listings and image rich content right on site with them. Or checking what else is listed in the MLS and not having your client squint at a tiny screen or needing to fight with your 10 lb beast of a lap top just to find out the battery is dead. After you've dazzled your client with your amazing technical skills it might be time to do a little writing about the process on your blog and you really don't want to have to use the tiny little keyboard on your iPhone or Droid. The iPad a almost a full size keyboard on the screen and even supports a bluetooth keyboard if you'd like.

I predict that one day soon we'll be doing away with both our cell phones and laptops in favor of units like this paired with a bluetooth headset. And when that day is here, I'll welcome it.

I am excited to add the iPad to my briefcase full of tech tools.  I believe the consumers will love the iPad similar to how they love the iPhone.  Your comment about using a Blutooth headset is right on and with wifi and using Fring, TruPhone or Vonage your iPad could become your wireless VOIP phone.
