A rare sight ...Moose on the Spit in Homer Alaska...

Homer Alaska Spit

I had heard there was a moose out on the Spit Yesterday....

It is an out of character occasion when they travel out on the Spit...

It isn't the best place for them to find food...

But we were out that way so we kept an eye out... and lucky us we found him....

Homer Alaska Spit

Munching Away at Coal Point a great place to buy fish or process it....

He stopped to check us out

Debra - OK so tell me what out on the spit means.  I'm just a good old country boy from the lower 48 and don't understand.

Wow, it's not even Moose Monday. Thanks for sharing. We see deer on a regular basis, but their miniature compared to your big critters.

Bob... the Spit is a long finger of land that sticks out across the sea.. about 5 miles long... there is a 2 lane road... I should do a whole post on it... it is a real adventure to go to the spit you can eat, fish, stay, get on a charter and go out to sea and fish some more! I will try to explain it better and use pictures....this is what it looks like from the top of Skyline Drive looking down

Thanks Dan.. I couldnt wait till Monday...  hope Gerry will forgive me!

Debra, Homer is so beautiful.  Having moose in your backyard is soooo cool.  Do they get cranky when they don't have enought food?

Well, we now suspect there is at least at third description of what spit is:-)  The moose photos are totally amazing!  I can't imagine being able to see one up that close.

Hello Everyone! Yes the moose would get cranky without food... but they have plenty to munch on.. hopefully this one is back on the mainland headed up the hill... thank you all very much...
