Designations? Here's mine. CBW!

Good morning! The following is meant to be mostly tongue in cheek and in no way to offend anyone who has multiple designations. By the way, my designation is CBW-Chief Bottle Washer!

I guess my point is designations are great as long as they serve the customer. Those of you who know me know I sometimes like to poke fun at things. Heck, my dad is a P.H.D. To me, a designation shows you took the time to learn your craft better. Here's a true story. My first paying job (after my paper route) was washing flasks and bottles in my dad's lab at Washington State University. Thus, the title of Chief Bottle Washer is true!

Again, designations are great if it serves the customer better. I would bet that's true in most cases. And, yes, it's a feather in your cap. Whether you're a CMPS, Certified Green Specialist, Certified Distressed Property Expert, Designated Broker, etc. etc., it shows you took the time to further what you know. But if you don't take that knowledge and apply it toward helping your customer, I would argue it's not useful.

What do you think? Do you have a lot of designations? Do you think it matters to your customer? Feel free to weigh in and even lambaste me if you like. Have a great day and remember that my designation is CBW-Chief Bottle Washer!

I'm gonna go out on a ledge here and agree with you 100% Paul.  And, certainly not to take away from anyone that has all these designations, but just like in every situation in life, there are TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE....and my belief is that while it IS a feather in your cap (???) it doesn't mean SQUAT unless you are able to share your knowledge and make it useful in your business.  I think that most folks do get their education which also gives designations, but then again some folks just like to look at the trophies.

My husband would advise you "buy a vowel" so it spells something!!!!

I am with all 3 of you!  Ha ha ha.  I am required to carry all these licenses, but the only ones that care are the Department of Financial Institutions and the other 2 regulators...  They like the cash it brings in.

Paul - ROTFLMAO!  I second that!  Now with the NMLS registry, all LO's will now have some kind of designation.  BFD!  I'll be the same LO that I have been for the last eight years.

Donne: Thanks! What does ROTFLMAO stand for? Yes, the key is to be the same, genuine person. Take care.

Julie: I'm glad I didn't ruffle any feathers here! Take care.

Wallace: Thanks for the comment. Adding a vowel to CBW still wouldn't spell anything! Have a nice weekend.

Jean: Perhaps as we get older, designations mean less. At least they do to me! Have a good one!

Donne: Thanks for the explanation of ROTFLMAO! That's hilarious. Ayone else want to hazard a guess what that means?

you are absolutely correct in the fact that designations mean nothing without applying your knowlegde to benefit your clients, some people actually sleep throught the class and still get the Alphabet soup after their name and don't even know what it is all about...

Paul . . . the designations may be a door opener for some situations, but the truth of what you can do for your client soon comes to the surface, and that will win or lose the day ultimately. Excuse me, I have to go pick up someone rolling around on the floor laughing uncontrollably . . . see you later.
