Junk mail is not only a pain, but hurts our environment in the loss of trees. Here are three simple steps you can take to cut your junk mail up to 75%:
•1. To stop unwanted catalogs write or send an email to Abacus Catalog Alliance.
Email: optout@abacus-direct.com
Snail mail: Abacus, P.O. Box 1478, Broomfield, CO 80038
•2. Contact the Direct Marketing Association and ask to be removed from the group's mailing list. They represent thousands of companies that use junk mail to market products or services. Visit www.the-dma.org. Simply create an account, go to manage my mail and opt out. It's that simple! You may also write to them at: Mail Preference Service, DMA, P.O. Box 282, Carmel, NY 10512. (There is also a link to opt out of credit and insurance offers, but I find it easier to call the number listed below in #3.)
•3. To stop mail solicitations from the finance and insurance industry, call 1-888-567-8688. This is a free service provided by the nation's three credit bureaus. By calling you will be opting out of these types of solicitations for five years.
