Today was one of those perfect summer days, the kind that you just want to revel in....I was fortunate enough to find myself with a 'flexible schedule' and decided to 'play hooky' and go to the beach.  The tide had just come in when I arrived around 11 and if there were 6 people at the beach, that was a lot!  I am fortunate to live in Northport, NY which is a small incorporated village on the north shore of Long Island.  We have our own private beach and the town beach is right 'next door'.

As soon as I set up my chair and towel, I settled in with my copy of "The Secret", which I have owned for months now but never had the time to read. Today I managed to get through more than half of the book and what I read gave me plenty to think about, so I would take 'breaks' from my reading in order to digest fully what I had learned.

During one of those 'breaks', I looked out across the water and noticed a sailing regatta which was underway. Seeing all those boats together made me think of a 'mama duck' and her ducklings (I have no idea why, it just came to mind while I was watching!).  I was mesmerized by the sight of all those majestic sailboats darting about the bay - it was truly the type of 'picture' you would find in a sailing promotion.

When I left the beach 4 1/2 hours later, the boats were still out there and the wind was picking up.  I wondered if those sailing the vessels were tired and also how difficult it must be for them to work 'with' the wind.  I also realized how blessed I am to live in such a wonderful area where you are never far from a beach, can get into one of the most exciting cities in the world in an hour, and have living history all around you.

I'm planning on doing the same thing tomorrow!

Hi Val -- I gave your blog a five, it is an enjoyable read and good for you taking time off.  You guard the Atlantic shore and I'll watch the Pacific from our rock half way between Guam and San Francisco. Aloha

Hi, Val!  We were out sailing yesterday, and kept marveling at the beauty of the area, and the perfect weather.  Hooky is good now and then, and as a sailing "family" (we brought the bulldog) we have been waiting for the perfect day.  I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed it, too- don't worry- no staging appointments when the wind is "right" and the weather is perfect!!

Sounds perfect Val! I'm off myself tomorrow thru the following weekend to the mountains of NC - hope to come back, renewed, refreshed and recharged..... limited cell phone and no internet....hummm what will I do?

Read, drink and be merry - many of my summer reading books have come straight off your list from the beginning of the summer that you posted (that was you right?) Enjoy the lazy days of summer while you can!

Bruce - it's a deal!  And thanks for the perfect score!

Laurie - Aren't we just so lucky to live on this 'island'?!  Good for YOU to get out there and enjoy the water too!  Does your dog enjoy sailing?  Glad to hear that we're on the "same page" about priorities when the wind and weather are on our side!  Life is just too short to miss out on special times!

I see that GREAT photo blown up to a 16 x 20, with the Vesta table and chairs, some aqua candles and shells set in sand on a mirror tile as the centerpiece... maybe the Horizon chair and ottoman...a fluffy throw...

They say when you dream in a language, you're fluent.  What is the equivalent for staging - terminal?  <gr>

Looking forward to hearing your views on the Secret.  It's a great read when relaxing.  I'm on Tim Ferris at the moment, reading about a 4 hour Work Week.  I can get behind that, I'll tell you!!

Val, how nice that you had such a perfect day....as you know there are no private beaches where I am :(  But I can always come and crash yours.  It was an absolutely beautiful day today.  I will bring you the DVD of The Secret when I see you.

Hi Val...thanks for the description of your beautiful day!  The water is always relaxing....AND, you reminded me to try and get back to viewing the Secret!!  I have sent many people to read/watch it and feel guilty that I have not completed it myself!!

Kudos to your great day!!  Regards-Kathleen

Val I admire that you make time for yourself. I cannot think of the last time I sat with a book. I have a cruise schedule for the first week in August and while I am not happy about being away from my business I hope I find the same restful days that you are enjoying now.

Val, here in Calgary we are landlocked - sigh!  Thank you for sharing your perfect summer day, even though it made me very envious.  My husband and I are headed to Vancouver in August so I hope we have perfect summer days by the ocean too.  Will also be reading The Secret.  I can't believe I've left it this long.  Great Blog.  Betty
