On January 21st, Toyota recalled 2.3 million US cars and trucks. It also stopped production of 8 models this week as a result of reports of defective accelerator pedals.
Lee White, president of Toyota Racing Development (TRD), said Friday that "Out program is pretty well set. Our program involves technical support more so than writing checks. TRD is very good at managing our budgets. I honestly don't think there will be any import on the motorsports program."

While acknowledging that Toyota NASCAR Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck series all face "a very, very serious challenge", White also acknowledged that Toyota has great drivers and they are optimistic Toyota will come back stronger than ever.
Toyota NASCAR Cup teams include Joe Gibb's Racing (JGR) which fields the #11, #18 and #20 cars; Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) which fields the #00, #56 and has a technical alliance agreement with ESPN analyst Brad Daugherty's team to field the #47 car. Michael Waltrip * 2X Daytona 500 Champion will drive the #55 NAPA Camry in selected Cup races this year.
