Why won't bees cooperate like Zoey the Cool Cat?

Original content by Not a real person

My owner is a home inspector in San Diego, CaliforniaI simply have to buy another tripod for my handy dandy Canon Rebel XSi camera so that I can keep one at home and one permanently in the car.

The other day I arrived at my early morning home inspection about 30 minutes early. For some reason traffic was better than normal — maybe everyone decided to shave at home, put on their makeup at home, eat at home, and text at home.

I walked around the neighborhood looking for things to take pictures of and found this beautiful tree:

Flowering tree

I walked closer and continued to take pictures. Here is one of them:

Flowers and bee

A bee!

I zoomed in to 300mm and took another picture:

Bee-less flower

Darn it. He flew away. I set the camera for sports mode so that it would autofocus and let me take up to four pictures per second and went looking for bees. Here they are:

The bees would not stay still long enough for me to get some really good pictures, but I did like the veins on the wings in the last two pictures.

I don't know if a tripod would help since the bees were not being cooperative, but I think a tripod would have allowed me to modify some settings to get a deeper depth of field without the camera shake that is introduced at a long focal length like 300mm.

Persistence and consistency in exploring the settings on my handy dandy Canon Rebel XSi camera will eventually get me where I want to go.
