Bet you don't know what this gizmo is - we found it in a kitchen drawer during an inspection

We had an inspection this week on a home built in 1956, the home was undoubtedly a one owner. The same family lived there for 54 years and everything inside was original. It looked like a museum and was clean as a whistle and perfectly maintained. The metal kitchen cabinets had little chrome push button latches just like the old style automobile vent windows. The basement had a Nutone flip down hi-fi system that still worked perfectly.

In a kitchen drawer we found this little gizmo - I knew exactly what it was the second I laid eyes on it. Not only did this thing make alot of noise, but the house sure smelled good while this noise was going on.

What a perfect little time capsule.  I don't have a clue as to what this gizmo might be?

Is it the relief valve for a pressure cooker? I remember when aluminum cook wear was King. I love the entertainment system

Claude is right - the pressure regulator on the big aluminum pressure cooker. I remember that pop-puff-pop-puff noise when mom was cooking pot roasts and vegetables, and both of my grandmothers had the same pressure cookers, they lasted for years, you just had to replace the gaskets every few years. Memories of the baby boomer generation.
