Hi Ginger- with the storms that we have had earlier this week they should have great waves for the contest! I love watching these events, the crowds really are energetic and the contestants are fearless. If I were a bit closer I think I'd be there...it is a perfect Carolina day for being in the beach!

Michele,  the waves are pretty tame today. Actually it takes more skill to surf the small ones...

Well, what was the height of the waves? I use to body surf at Cocao Beach. I could catch an 8 foot wave. What a blast that was.

Hi Susan- I am sure youve been to Ron Jons then too...I am a Florida girl, my grandpa worked at Cape Canaveral and lived in Cocoa- good ole days! The long boards are making a huge comeback.

Body surfing is fun but tumbling underneath a big wave isnt! The older I get the more I realize the risks we took as "kids"...now I worry about broken necks and missing teeth when my 18 yr old goes surfing- which is often!

Ginger,

Nice photo.  Haven't been to Wrightsville beach before - we usually head down to Oak Island where the waves are pretty calm.

Hi Rita, We don't get big waves at Wrightsville either. They say it's harder to surf the small ones. Wrightsville is such a lovely beach. Let me know if you would like to come down one day. I can get you a Beach pass for parking.
