If you're having trouble with the "walking man" on googlemaps, read these directions.

I wrote this sad note to one of my blogging buddies.

"I'm still having trouble with controlling the google man.  I need to know how to switch from one side of the street to the other etc.  If I could do that I wouldn't have to drive around looking for these houses!!"

Here is his reply that may help lots of us.

************************************************************************************

Simple really. Bring up your Google map. There's a zoom scale with a little man on top. Above that is a "compass rose".

Click and drag the man to the location you wish to view and release the button. Inevitably the little guy will be facing the wrong way.

Go to the compass rose and adjust it by clicking and dragging the "N" around:

With the "N"  pointing up you'll view the north side of an east-west street.

When the "N"  is at the bottom you are looking south.

To look west, on a north-south street, put the "N" on the right (East) side of the rose.

To look east; do just the opposite.

Sometimes you may be able to read a house number by clicking on the plus sign below the rose displayed with the street view..

If what you need to see isn't in the enlarged view, just click and drag the picture until it is.

Click again for more magnification.

Happy hunting. Hope you save  lots of gas, too.

Charles, the maps are great.  That may be the way Raven found his way back to my house today.  I have him ready to blog.

Steven, did you find Nutsy?????????????   Does mapquest have a walking man?

Elizabeth, didn't you love the little man?  You know he's spying on each and every one of us!  Did you pull up your own house?

Now that's useful. I've been trying to figure out how to do that so I can do home inspections from the office rather than actually driving out there to the property! LOL

Hi Barbara ~ Yes I did pull up my own house actually.  I love the street view, use it constantly, but never knew about that little guy. Used him again today.  The things we learn here....

When Looking to Buy or Sell - Make the Right Move

This is really a fantastic thing.  I have had many buyers use this tool.  Saves us all a lot of time and energy.  No need looking at a house if the buyer see its next to gas station or the street looks crazy busy.

I agree James.  We have so many new things in real estate to make our jobs easier.  But that man is tricky and not trustworthy.

Christine, this is such a good tool!  Practice makes perfect, so they say, so I need to do more practice.
