I was reading an article today titled "Military dogs in Afghanistan short on chow."
Dogs have been used in combat since World War I to find bombs, the missing, and the dead. In Afghanistan they are doing heavy duty work searching for roadside bombs and improvised explosive devices.
The United States has about 2,800 military dogs, the largest canine force in the world. Military dogs and those working on police and rescue units need special dog food because of their energy-draining missions. They can't just eat scraps like our backyard dogs can. Unfortunately, when it comes to moving supplies into Afghanistan, dog food has a lower priority than food for our military personnel. It takes about $40,000 per year per dog for food and appropriate training and care.
The second part of the article was missing, so I don't know if it had a charity or a phone number where we could donate money or food. Anyone out there with either a dog or a family member in the service know if we can donate money or food somewhere to help our military dogs?

Jim...I don't know the procedure for making a donation to the Military Dogs, but I do know they perform a great service for the Military Partners.
