The Collin County Regional Airport is growing along with the surrounding community. The Collin County Regional Airport which is owned by the City of McKinney and managed by the McKinney Airport Development Corporation broke ground in October to create a new runway. The new runway will measure 7,001 feet by 150 feet and be located just east of the existing runway. Once the new runway is completed, the existing runway will become a parallel taxiway. Additional width was added to the runway to allow for the operation of larger aircraft. The project is being funded over a period of seven years by the Federal Aviation Administration, the Texas Department of Transportation Division of Aviation, McKinney Economic Development Corporation, and the City of McKinney. Construction is expected to begin in the Spring 2010.
