I was just at a local Discount Shoe store with my kids.   I was in the process of checking out and the Cashier zoned in on my credit card .... When I handed her my card she looked at the back of it ...The back of the card not only has my signature but it has the little security code that is required when ordering items online.... She then asked me if I wanted to be on the "Preferred Customer Mailing List."

                                                              My first instinct is,

Wow, I am a Preferred Customer...

                                                            How special is that....

My answer to her question was no.

I have found that a lot of stores are doing the Mailing Lists.  Just be aware that when you pay with a credit card and fill out a form with your personal information on it that cashier can easily match your credit card with your personal information....  If they have the security code on the back of the card they can now purchase items very easily online.

For all I know that Clerk could have easily bought  thousands of dollars worth of items on Google using my information by the time I made it home.

If you want to be on the mailing list then take the Mailing List form home, fill it out and mail it in or drop it off at a later time when you're not using the credit card.

Also, many of them ask for your phone number, and I always politely decline.

Its so easy to loose your personal information these days. You gotta be extra careful. I tell all of clients to be extra careful when providing any personal information. I try to avoid using my credit card at little gas stations and convenience stores unless I can see the cash register and the card reader. Its so easy to make copy of a credit card.

Thanks for the warning.  One can never be to careful these days.  I shred every piece of mail that needs to be thrown away which contains identifying info...especially credit card offers and similar junk mail.

Ahh, this is why cash is still KING!  Sure somebody can steal your cash, but I would rather them get the cash instead of my identity and credit.
