Another easy way to STEAL Images

By
Education & Training with Tech and Social Media Consultant

Testing a plugin called “photodropper” that is supposed to pull in images from Flickr with the correct Creative Commons License, add the proper photo credit and do some other things..

You can find it here: http://www.photodropper.com/wordpress-plugin/

With the Photo Dropper plugin, you can now search millions of Flickr photos and add them to your Wordpress posts with just 1 click, all without leaving your Wordpress dashboard. Attribution links are automatically added underneath the images to comply with the Creative Commons license rules. It’s the easiest way to add photos to your blog. Period. And best of all – it’s Free!

I did a quick search for “Sharks Hockey”  and  found this one (and many more)

SJ Sharkie - Make Some Noise!
Creative Commons License photo credit: The Written Geek™

How’s that look to you?  I did that all with one click.

One other side note.  If you have a commercial blog you’ll have to do a small bit of adjusting to filter out those that are not “commercially approved”

Mike, I'll try it. I've spent too much time going through Flikr photos to 1. find the right thing and 2. try to determine the license. So by "commercial" use I assume that means anything related to business which would be just about all of us LOL!

Mike,

This looks good.  Notice the correct licensing attribution says nary a word about, "Courtesy of Flickr?"

Mike,

Of course.  Maybe you and I are the only ones who have read the Flickr usage and attribution guidelines.

Might have been a little indirect in my reference.....

Mike - great info!  But, my wordpress blog is not my favorite.   Does this ONLY work with Wordpress?   Or can I use it in my AR blog?

Steve - Yup.  I'm liking it so far.

Christine - you could but we have to adapt how.  Go to your Wordpress blog, grab the picture code you want  - come back here to AR, switch to html mode and insert the code.  It'll look something like this...

<em><span style="font-style: normal;"><a title="SJ Sharkie - Make Some Noise!" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26147512@N04/4254405818/" target="_blank"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4068/4254405818_af07fd3463.jpg" border="0" alt="SJ Sharkie - Make Some Noise!" /></a>

<small><a title="Attribution-ShareAlike License" href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/" target="_blank"><img src="http://AreWeConnected.com/wp-content/plugins/photo-dropper/images/cc.png" border="0" alt="Creative Commons License" width="16" height="16" align="absmiddle" /></a> <a href="http://www.photodropper.com/photos/" target="_blank">photo</a> credit: <a title="The Written Geek™" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26147512@N04/4254405818/" target="_blank">The Written Geek™</a></small></span></em>

That looks like alot of work but remember - I created that with just one click.

I have PhotoDropper on my WP blog, but I usually use Zemanta instead.  But, PD is nice in that I can put the picture anywhere in the post, but Z puts it on the right side...

Lane - I'm moving the other way - away from Zemanta.  It's just not pulling the images I'm looking for.

Troy - This is an incredible tool and I'm putting in every blog I build these days.  It's one of the 13 Mandatory Plugins I think every WP blog should have.

On Zemanta, I find I'm getting a good selection... when I refine the search.  Sometimes it gives me cool stuff I hadn't thought of...
