I was at a mail center the other day and saw a young lady with a big orange box mailing something and she was mailing it free! I asked her what Chegg.com was on the big orange box...something new at UT?
She rents her text books for her classes at the University of Texas for usually half the retail value. When she is done she ships the books back in the orange box provided by Chegg for free!
Chegg.com came online in 2007 and has rented more than 2 million books to 6,400 schools! The company has a Facebook fan page just for the University of Texas:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chegg-at-The-University-of-Texas/197446402759?v=app_2309869772.
Chegg.com has gained in popularity through Facebook and Twitter with student ambassadors recruiting customers at $5 bucks per customer. Chegg.com promises to plant 1 tree for every book rented. One student has made more than $17K!
With the cost of attending college increasing students are looking for any way to shave expenses. Today students are aware of their environment, want to make a difference and will learn about what is offered through social media.
Entrepeneurs, who study the market place, offer something of value and use social media to capture an audience will succeed in their endeavor.
