I was reading a back issue of O Magazine where they talked about "FedEx" days.
It's a day that you take off from doing your normal responsibilities (no---not a vacation) and work on another idea, but you have 24 hours to deliver (get it? overnight delivery).
Well, I had been tossing around a couple of ideas. One was: Why do we have power cords? Can we have wireless electricity without batteries? Here's a great link to nature's batteries---fun reading---really!
A quick Google search revealed-yes we can!
It's called WiTricity by MIT that demonstrated it in 2007. Intel demonstrated wireless electricity in September 2008 at their Developer's Forum. The challenge is safety and efficiency. Safety because electric fields do harm us, but magnetic fields don't (so they say), so must transmit electricity wirelessly via magnetic fields. A bit mind-boggling to me.

However, as most electrical engineers know, Nikola Tesla demonstrated wireless electricity as early as 1893. The reports are saying we are still 50 years away from really implementing wireless electricity. That seems like a long time for something that was demonstrated over 100 years ago.
