This is probably the best advice ever!  Once we learn to believe in ourselves, we can begin to fly!

Via Russel Ray, San Diego Marketing & Business Consultant (Russel Ray):

My owner is a Marketing & Business Consultant in San DiegoThe beginning of February means that the world's greatest winter sports athletes will be heading to Vancouver, British Columbia, shortly.

As a Marketing & Business Consultant, any time Olympics and other championship events come around, I'm reminded of what Jesse Owens said after winning four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin under Adolf Hitler:

Scott #2496, Jesse Owens"I wanted no part of politics. And I wasn't in Berlin to compete against any one athlete. The purpose of the Olympics, anyway, was to do your best. As I'd learned long ago from Charles Riley [his high school track coach in Cleveland], the only victory that counts is the one over yourself."

Those words can very easily be transformed to virtually any business or personal problem.

Scott #3185j, Jesse OwensWhen I was forced out of necessity to start a business to support myself 100% rather than relying on an employer, I had to gain a victory over myself because of my fears of the unknown.

When I have a large project to do, many times I have to gain a victory over myself in order to get started because the magnitude of the project seems undoable.

As almost any athlete can tell you, the major victories are accomplished by those minor victories, many of which are simply victories over one's own inhibitions or dislikes. A seemingly undoable major project, broken down into its smaller components, can often provide those minor victories that lead to the major victory.

Go for the gold by winning over yourself first!
