                            Sunday Morning on CBS is one of my favorite programs. They always have a series

                  of  interesting stories from around the US, people to see and places to go!

                        I hope to pass on a little of the same........

                                                                   NEW HAMPSHIRE SUNDAY MORNING

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Exploring this wonderful State of New Hampshire is something my husband and I never tire of! There are so many diverse attractions and ever-changing landscapes...the possibilities are endless!
  The beautiful weather of the past few days called us to do another Road Trip from the great book called BEST NEW HAMPSHIRE DRIVES-14 Tours in the Granite State, by Kay and Bill Scheller.
  We chose to do a re-worked version of Tour#3,  Mt. Monadnock and the surrounding Villages. There is so much to experience and see in this area recounting the end of our journey will have to wait till next time.......
  We headed out from Concord, NH and got onto Rt.89 North. Exit 5 (Rt.202/9) set us in the right direction. We had a late start so decided to begin with Alberto's the "Best Food by a Dam Site" on Rt.202 just over the Antrim border into Bennington. Alberto's has been in business since 1945 and looks exactly the same as it did in the 1960's when I spent many evenings out there with a crew from College.....Good Times!! Unfortunately they are only open for Dinner so it was on to Peterborough!
  From 202 we took Rt.123 towards the Town of Peterborough. Peterborough is a delightful area and is home to The Peterborough Players, The MacDowell Colony and the Sharon Arts Center are but a few. Peterborough is also the home of Rep. Andy Peterson (and he's also a Realtor).
  I have wanted for some time to visit The Sharon Arts Center (30 Grove St.,Peterborough). As a collector of fine Glass I looked forward to their many displays!
   These are but a few examples !
  The second Floor houses the exhibits. From now until August 18th, 2007 the exhibits will feature works of recent  MacDowell Colony Artisits. Below : an example of a work by Lisa Dahl an artist  "There Goes The Neighborhood"-acrylic on color photograph, 2006.
 By this time we were RAVENOUS still not having had Lunch! We didn't have but a few steps to go....We spoted the "Peterborough Diner" at 10 Depot Square. A quaint old working diner established in 1949.
 FOR 55 YEARSPeterborough Diner
Very good food and very good prices! Before leaving Peterborough we browsed a used book store....we each found an in-expensive treasure. Then back in the car to head towards our nest destination on tour #3....Jaffery, NH.
But, I'll save that for next time!
                                                                Come travel the back-roads of New Hampshire . There are wonderful examples of our history around every corner!
Joan,
That sounds like a very relaxing Sunday!  When we were up there a couple years ago I took my hubby up into the Merrimack Valley so he could get a feel for the diversity of the landscape.  He like it and would consider moving up there if we could afford it!  LOL  But the closest office his company has is in Southboro, MA and that's just a bit too far to commute!
I sure miss that area up there.  It's truly beautiful, but a lot of folks never see it.
Carol...as much as I hate Winter...and I do hate winter. There is so much to see. I have lived here all my life and never tire of the diversity of landscape, architecture and people!
If you sell your "Flipper(s)" for a Fortune...you could retire here!
WoW ! Beautiful post, Joan .  I loved the pictures, felt like I was right there with you on your journey. You sure know how to make a day of it. The diner looks very quaint.
We have a 'Peterborough' here too. It is about 45 minutes from me and is one of my favourite places to visit.
Thanks for a wonderful tour,
Jo
Hi joan   -- I love Peterborough.  I had a client looking in Peterborough and Jaffrey -- they are great towns!  I think the pictures really take you right there -- happy traveling -- I can't wait to see where you go next week!  I have been working to hard that I haven't had a lot of time to travel -- however, I have a post coming up that will be a lot of fun -- stay tuned!
Joan, one of our landmarks in Lancaster, PA is the Neptune Diner, still serving great food since about 1952!
