4 Comments on Atlanta GA - Fulton County Homestead Exemption rises in 2010 & 2011!
Michelle - this seems rather low for a homestead exemption. Is this like a 'credit' or something. We don't have anything like this here in AZ.
Anna,
It is a credit, but they take the overall value and assess you 40% of the value. This exemption is then taken off the 40% number.
Example. Home valued at $500,000 would be viewed as $200,000, so $25k tax exemption, bringing it to $175k is good. If you home is very expensive, it's worth less in proportion, but same in actual dollars credit!
I know every area is different.
All the best, Michelle
Michele...Nice idea to lower property taxes a bit. I didn't know a homestead exemption was related to property taxes.
Carra, Yes, now we just hope they keep the milage rates the same, so they don't increase it that way!
All the best, Michelle
