Kentucky Home Inspector goes Marketing (Fishing)

By
Home Inspector with B4 U Close Home Inspections&Radon Testing (www.b4uclose.com)

What a day it was early last week.  I had two inspections within 20 miles (or so) of Cave Run Lake.  One of my favorite places in Kentucky.

But, at about 11:45, as I'm finishing up my first inspection, the client for the second inspection calls.  He lost his financing.  Inspection cancelled.

What does a Kentucky Home Inspector do when a client loses his financing & cancels the inspection.

Why, go fishing!  After all, it was only 20 miles (or so) away from where I was for the morning inspection.  (I guess that's why I carry fishing gear in the van.)

I left my morning inspection, which was back down this cute little road.

Soon I was zipping along here.

Wondering who was going to get this listing?  (You up for it, Lizette?)

Sometimes the walls fall down.

I pulled in here.

To see this.

Before long (and after a few dollars had changed hands), the view had changed to this.

And then to this.

Soon I looked ahead and saw the clouds darkening. (Yeah, it's just a little john boat, but it got me where I was going in a reasonable time.)

But, after a thorough drenching of gentle rain, the sun came out again. (and I mean thorough, might as well have jumped in the lake, I was that wet.  Good thing I had a baggy for the camera)  A reflection of the trees on shore.

I passed this isolated nest in a tree in the middle of the lake-

To pull in to this little cove

and say hello (catch & release) to about 10 of these little guys.  What a blast.  They were real friendly!  I REALLY wanted to say howdy to their great grandpas, but none of them were home at the time I was there.  Darn it!

It was kind of sad to leave the hills behind.

Hey, at least in conversations at the marina, I exchanged or was asked for five or six business cards (that name on the back of the shirt (B4U Close Home Inspections) & a willingness to talk to people pays off).  Think the IRS would buy this as a marketing trip.

It's a wonderful day when I wake up in the morning.  The rest of the day is just what I make of it.  Now you know what I made of that day!

I think the current owners are a little angry about the thorough inspection you did. They didn't have one done and it cost them $18K.  I, my loan officer and my agent think a home inspection is well worth what I paid.

Nathan, Morehead, KY Inspection  (20101012B)

Thank You for the outstanding job you did on the inspection.  We bought and sold 9 houses and this was the only inspection that was ever done properly.  It was helpful and we will use it to do the repairs with a system, instead of the guess work we usually do.  Thanks again

I am glad you took time to smell the roses! So many people get caught up in work they forget to take some time for themselves! Great job and the pictures are wonderful!

But Erby, All that pleasure, when did you do the report.  Better be careful, pleasure can be habit forming.  Then what happens to your work ethic (tongue firmly planted in cheek)!

It is beautiful, isn't it, Mike.

Dawn:  I did (both).

Loretta,  I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures.

David,  Report?   What report, dang did I forget to do something.  No don't think so, I caught some fish!  Went for a nature walk in the woods!  What else is there??\

Don, Sorry.  Plenty of coffee and cold beeer and fishing but you'll have to bring you own bail.  My boat didn't need one as it wasn't leaking.

Thank y'all for reading.

I think I'll pass on THAT listing. But I can give you some cards to hand out at that dock next time you are there. Referrals are always appreciated. We could put my little logo on the pocket of your shirt, wouldn't that look spiffy? I felt like I just went fishing and didn't even get all smelly! Thanks!

Erby,  I remember Daniel Boone National park as a kid. I grew up in Indiana and we would go camping there from time to time. Always a great place to spend a long weekend but I remember the fish beging bigger.  Please tell me you threw that little one back

Congratulations on the fantastic narration.

Erby.. there are those whom complain about lack of professionalism by discussing anything not targeted to Home Inspection only. You have proven this to be weak narrow minded thinking.

Lizette:  Sorry, that space is already rented but I've  got a spot on the left shoulder of my shirts that's still for rent if your're interested.  You're logo would just about fill it.   I'm sure that some other agent has already snapped up the listing of such a hot property.  Ya just gotta be quick on such a property.

Dawn & Shawn "say hello (catch & release) to about 10 of these little guys".  I never "throw" them back, just gently release them into the water again.

I get very few days off in the summer.  I take advantage when I can.

Hey Erby:

That what they call a true fisherman's story.  They say you have to be flexible in this business. I say you were being flexible. Thanks for the journey.

I do LOVE it, Steve.  Gotta take those opportunities when I can.  Sometimes they are few and far between.  Plus I made some good contacts with people at the dock.

You never know where your next inspection is coming from.

Erby: Carl here again. It's kinda like my recent visit with that person from Walmart that we were talking about on my blog. When you least expect it to happen here comes a nice inspection. Goes to show you can work anywhere.

Have a good one.

Erby, caught the biggest catfish of my life after an appointment fell out in a neighbors pond that I had wanted to fish for a long time, you never know what you are going to catch, where, or when, that is what makes fishing so much FUN!!!
