Kid's Have Eye's Too

Last night during family time, our 100 lb. husky (Duke), decided that he is a lap dog.  Up onto the couch he jumped, right in the middle of Peter and I.  The next thing we know our youngest son had grabbed one of our camera's and was taking pictures of the event.  Now some parents would just tell him to put it down as it is quite spendy, we (though keeping the spendy part in mind), told him to be careful and take some pictures for his photo file.  We have been teaching our boys about photography for the past year because they both love photography and we hope to help them develop that skill.

I though he took some pretty good pictures for a 12 year old boy.  Here is a shot of our dog Duke.  It is a little bit blurry, but I thought it was very creative.

He took this picture of Duke on top of Peter and I.

He is a happy dog.  The boys really love Duke.  He feels right at home now, as you can see.  No fear in his life now!  We are so happy to have him and to have the chance to give him a good life.

Mitchell went over to our fish tank next.  He has been watching us photograph our reef tank and wanted to see if he could get a good picture of the tank's critters.  He snapped this shot of the mushrooms and rass.

This is the rass from the above picture.  It swam up to Mitchell when he was practicing.

We are glad that both of our boys enjoy photography.  We hope that when they are old enough, we can give them jobs that they will be good at and enjoy while they go to school and decide what they want to do for a living.  Some day I am sure they will look back at all of these photos and it will bring them joy and happy memories.  I see potential in them and I look forward to seeing what they will produce over the years as they hone in their skills.  Life as a parent is rewarding.

Hi Gene,

Thanks, he is learning and seems to have the eye for a shot with a touch of creativity to boot.  Duke is thankful for a happy home for sure.  He is a rescue dog and he seems to know that he was given a second chance.  He is a very loving dog.  Enjoy your weekend! :)

Hello Peter and Dawn, Thankfully the kids have parents with the vision to allow them to capture life and to do they have to first discover and see it. Too few children are encouraged to discover it. The camera gives them a focal point by which to express their own vision.

Hi Dawn - It's really interesting to see how children perceive our surroundings compared to us. And with digital cameras being so inexpensive, it's a great way to build memories. Glad to hear that Duke is doing well; I remember when you rescued him.

Hello John,

You are so right.  I really love to look at the photographs that they take to see what sort of creativity has entered their shot preparation.  You can see the wheels turning while they think about what it is they are going to take a picture of.  I am glad that they enjoy photography.  We will have a ton of photos to look back at when they are grown.  They will look back and remember learning with us.  Yes, Duke is great.  We are so blessed to have him in our home.  Our little chihuahua sleeps curled up in his tail.  It is to cute.  I will have to get a picture of the two of them cuddled up.  Hope you enjoy Super Bowl Sunday!

Hello Debi,

Thanks.  It is a fun thing to be teaching them.  We hope that they will continue to build their skills as they grow.  The best thing about them learning about photography is that they came to us and asked if we would teach them.  We didn't have to convince them, they just ran with it!  Have a great Sunday and enjoy the Super Bowl if your watching!

It's amazing some of the photos that will turn up when you give a young child your camera.  They truly have a different perspective on life and things and it's a great experiment into the mind of a child to just give them a camera and let them go crazy.  Thanks for sharing!  That tank looks amazing.  Mostly live corals and invertebrates?

You never really know what children are capable of unless you let them try. It's good that you're encouraging them to be photographers, and that they have taken to it in such a manner. Boy's got talent, from the pictures you've posted. He's definitely make some money from it as he gets older.

Hello Carissa ,

Yes, I agree.  I am always fascinated by the photographs that they take.  Yes, we have a full 55 gallon salt water reef tank with a lot of live coral, invertebrates and a hand full of fish.  We have a total of 3 salt tanks and 1 fresh water tank.  My husband and I began caring for tanks our first year of marriage, almost 17 years ago!  Thanks, we do enjoy them as they are very relaxing.  Have a great day!

Hello William,

Thanks!  We do like to see what they produce with their creative minds.  I am glad that he has gotten some positive feedback.  It will really make him happy and feel good about what he is learning.  We hope that this will give them a way to make some good money while they go to college to become who they want to be.  Have a great day!
