REBLOG OF JEFF BELONGER: Re-blogging - What is re-blogging? How can it help me or help you? - Part 1 of 2

Reblogger
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Realty Arts NC Broker License #235526

Reblogged just to point out that the function can also be used to DISAGREE with the original post.

It is valuable to a reader to have the "Point/Counterpoint" byplay right in front of them, without having to open another window or click back and forth between screens.

Other than that minor quibble, LOL, Jeff is spot on with this informative post.

What is re-blogging all about?

re-blog What is re-blogging? Many of you have seen this green icon in the upper right corner of other member's blogs. Reblogging is simply someone republishing your content on their page. When someone reblogs your post, it transfers it to their page without changing a thing. That reblogger can add an introduction above your actual post, but not all do. I will go over this in Part 2, Do you pay it forward in your re-blog?

My opinion? A Re-Blogged post is one of the finest compliments another member can pay you.

What are my options about re-blogging?

re-blogging button

Very simple, you can choose your post to be re-blogged or not.

You have to check the box that is at the bottom of your blog for it to be re-blogged. This is literally 3 boxes above the button you click when submitting your post. And this can't be done if you have chosen your blog as a 'members only' post.

How can re-blogging help me, the author of that re-blog?

news media - news outlets

What a better way to get your message out to others. No matter what kind of topic or message, other people thought it was either very worthy or helpful. It would be like having your own news agency or your own personal paperboy delivering the news on your behalf.

Keep in mind, if your post is of quality content and keyword rich, that re-blog will get searched throughout the internet, which in turn gets your information out to possibly thousands more without you lifting a finger.

Overall, this could mean more potential clients coming to you and or your site, to read up more about you.

How can re-blogging help me as the person who re-blogs a post?

potential clients and extra money

So how can it help you if you re-blog someone elses post? Could you possibly hurt yourself even if you re-blogged someone in your own industry. In my own opinion, I don't see how it could hurt you at all if you are in different market areas.

But let's take it a step further. If that person is a good writer, and or has very good Google juice because of their name and or search words, this could help you also. How is this? I have personally known a few members here on Active Rain get a new borrower who found them on the internet by reading something that they re-blogged of mine. Please read : The success of re-blogging.

Important Bullet Point - I have searched through Google for my key words at times online and sometimes have found my post that was re-blogged to be higher than my original post. Wow... how powerful is that. Talk about your message helping the both of you.

IMPORTANT THOUGHT - Melissa Zavala stated this comment : Keep in mind that you are endorsing that person's thoughts and or opinions when re-blogging. What happens if that person is wrong about a specific topic? Just keep this in mind when re-blogging.  Thanks Melissa for bringing this up.

To re-blog or not to re-blog, that is thy question. But what is your answer?

Hi Cary, what an excellent well written post to re-blog. I see more and more members taking advantage of this option.

Are you suggesting the Re-Butt?  I know when I saw it suggested by a member and Bob Stewarts response I thought the Re-Butt use of the Re-Blog was a horrible idea but in a blog about it  Laurie M in NY and a few others convinced me that it could be the best thing in the world in the world in some cases. I will now agree in the hands of responsible adults Re-Blogging to Re-Butt (or is that Re-But?) can be a very good discussion.  In the hands of a butt-head?  Could be WWIII.

Maureen,

I am NOT suggesting "RE-BUTTHEAD."  LOL.  I AM suggesting adding value through conversation beyond simple unspoken assumed endorsement.

I aspire to one day qualify as a "responsible adult."

I think of you as a very responsible blogger Mike and know you would never Re-Butthead a post.

Before blogging about Re-Blogging to  Re-Bu l tt I thought only Buttheads would Re-Blog as a Re-Butt. Laurie and someone else suggested that it is sometimes better than someone paraphrasing what you are saying and possibley distorting it innocently or on purpose.

Mike - I agree.  However if abused it could be a cheap way to try and rack up points using other peoples blogs.  Intent is the key!

We all are not experts on all topics and when we find a great blog it seem logical to spread ti to others.

Maureen,

Oh, boy.....  Now I have something to live up to...

Nevin,

Of course!  There is a always a way to game any system without offering value.

Terry Bonnie,

And we can help spread a great blog to people who have not seen it yet.

Mike... I am not sure how I missed this re-blog... lol  But I did comment to you in regards to your comment on my original blog.  I love the re-butting by doing it in a re-blog. I did this once about a year ago, when a loan officer actually put misleading information out there.  So I just re-blogged their post and added my thoughts and opinions in the commentary section...  I was able to tell my audience to why this was misleading information. So you made an excellent point... thanks

Here is my Part 2 :

Re-blogging - Do you pay if forward in your re-blog?  Or to those that re-blog your blog?  - Part 2 of 2

thanks again and thanks for the compliment...
