Some of the most expensive homes in the Midlands are being built along lakes- and many people are choosing relatively remote Fairfield and Newberry counties for those new dream homes.

• The average new home on Lake Murray, which has waterfront in Newberry, Lexington and Richland counties, was a little more than $156,000.
• On Lake Wateree in Fairfield County, the average was $198,000.
• Lake Monticello prices were slightly higher at $205,800.
• On Lake Greenwood in Newberry County, the average price was $265,000.
