Re-use old barn wood for design

Well this is another way to be green and with style!

Dan who is a licensed builder and a client of mine has started up this business due to the loss of New Construction business.

However Dan is proof when one door closes another one opens.  About 2 years ago he found he could use his love for old barns and his building skills to make useful "stuff" out of the old barn wood.

His website has pictures of the many projects he has done thus far.  I so love the projects he has done  and the finishing work looks wonderful.

The Kitchen cabinets are probably my favorite.  However I like the idea that every piece is original and nobody will have the same thing as yours.

According to the interview ( linked onhis facebook site) with a very pleased homeowner that has used his talent and put in "new" kitchen cabinets they figured the price was as much as buying cabinets from their local hardware store.  So custom made cabinets at the price of mass produced cabinets?  Well this is right down my alley for sure!

I understand he has been shipping to places out of state, but not sure how far he goes, but worth a call for sure.

I hope you enjoy his website as much as I did!

You can facebook Dan as well here.

Great idea, free materials, it is green and lots of people seem to love that country style. Seems like he should do well, nice of you to post about it for him!

I would love to do this, but can't seem to find the materials, and when I do, the barn owner wants retail price for the wood.  I'm still looking though!

Old barn wood is like "gold".  So many people love the "character" of 100-year-old lumber that has weathered and lived a previous life.  It is the ultimate way to "go green" by recycling a building product that would otherwise end up in the landfill or fireplace.
