I find it extremely helpful when mortgage originators attend closings.  Don't get me wrong, I know that sometimes it can get crowded at a closing, especially for a first time homebuyer closing at the Registry of Deeds, but it is worth having the originator there.

Some of the better originators make sure that when attorneys go over the HUD-1 that they re-emphasize that the numbers at closing are exactly how they were proposed to them weeks ago.  The borrowers feel like they made the right choice.

Since there are often two realtors at the closing it also allows for the mortgage originator to show their strengths.  When loan officers don't show up to closings it always makes me feel like they aren't proud of what they sold or have something to hide.

The ideal situation would be that they are there to smile and greet and pass out business cards and answer any questions about the fiscal aspects of the loan.  A simple yet generous gift to the client would always be a nice touch as well.

 Thoughts???

Good points.  It is a great way to solicit referrals from the attorney and listing agent as well.

I always like it when they are there because if there are any questions they can clear it up....

I make 75% of my closings, but I always review the HUD with the client in person BEFORE the closing.  I think it removes any fear

I have to agree with you 100%. If I am in the same state I am always at my customers closings no matter what. It is an issue of service and for some of us can be the first time we've met our clients because of referral volume. Nice post and good points.
