Massachusetts Weather Panic: Snow - What Snow?

By

Snow - what Snow?Yesterday's prediction that a Nor'easter was scheduled to hit Boston and Metrowest Massachusetts set people into a virtual panic.  Even as of this morning, local meteorologists were promising that up to 12 inches would blanket the area.

Snow plows were in the ready and kids were kept home from school and all the while we were asking, "Where is the snow?"

I think all of the reports of the "Snowmageddon" that hit Washington over the weekend made New Englanders more than ready to accept their fate.

Weather forecasts yesterday and last night sent people scrambling into the grocery stores stocking up on milk, bread and other staples in fear of the worse.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation, in preparation for the big storm, had 1,100 pieces of snow and ice equipment out on the roads and at the ready.   I wonder how much it cost the state to do that.

The prediction has been downgraded to less than six inches of snowfall.  But, as I am looking out the window - there is actually no snowfall.

How does the expression go?  It's better to be safe than sorry.

Bob:

I don't know.  I just checked the current weather forecast. It said that it is snowing right now and looking out the window - nothing.  But, you are right, you never know...

My dad joked with me yesterday if the snow doesn't come to call him.  So I called at noon to say I had seen just 3 flakes, but that I knew I'd be shoveling those words later.  All was not lost today being home safe today, I got the spend the day with my 2 boys.

Always remember:  You average grocery store is always just a couple of trucks (and maybe 3-4 days away from mostly emply shelves....especially if there is a panic/run on their inventory.

Be sure to always have some food in storage.

Jon:

I am glad to hear that. I know some other people who also got to spend some unexpected quality time.  Maybe it was nature's way of telling people to take a break.

Jim:

We all have to remember to do that. But, when people hear of an impending snow storm, there is an immediate panic at the local grocery stores. I guess now we are all stocked up for the next "emergency."

Claudette:  Despite the blizzard conditions yesterday, we didn't get near the amount of accumulation predicted.  Six inches of snow sounds just about perfect for a snowstorm.
