Scandal? What's new? And why pick on one particular denomination? I have yet to meet an organized religion that I can even remotely respect. After all, nearly every single 'rule' or proclamation regarding the way we live our lives has been morphed throughout the millennia to suit the perverse ideas of mere men. Take for example the idea of marriage... it wasn't even considered a sacrament within any western church until the 12th century! So this 'one man one woman' thing is just wishful thinking. Let's be honest here, even the writers of the four gospels don't agree on much - not even the simple things.

My point is this:  Rather than denigrate any particular church for veering [READ: EVOLVING] onto a different path, isn't it more honest to recognize that these are nothing more than the changing attitudes of modern man? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the very essence of Christ's teachings centered upon tolerance. Why not give that a try?

Hi Jennifer,

I respectfully disagree. In additon the issue is not what you believe about organized religion or whether you respect religion or not. This issue is not about you and if tolerence is needed.

The issue is that those who are in power in the United States for the Conference of Catholic Bishops have not been honest about how money they have collected has been used.

And no the Catholic Church has not changed with the times.

Abortion is still murder.

In America you have the freedom to live as you choose. But you do not have the freedom to say my faith or church has to compromise our beliefs because you think we should.  We are not demanding that you be Catholic and follow our churches teachings.

Just don't be Catholic, simple!!

If I were giving money, I would be displeased if it were being used in a way other than had been represented, so I understand that. But the catholic church HAS definitely changed over time. In fact, if you look into it, priests have only been prevented from marrying (and celibacy required) for a few hundred years. And when I was growing up, birth control of ANY type would result in your removal from the faith. I believe that was true if you married 'outside the church' as well - which is no longer the case. All of this in just a few decades. I could go on and on but I know you know all of this.

One thing we will absolutely agree upon: I will never become catholic. But I do respect the fact that you are :)
