I'll admit I'm a lurker not a blogger here on Active Rain. I've only put up 4 blog posts in my more than a year as a member. Just looked at the stats in my profile and I'm ranked #33 out of 147 in my area - a very busy and active one Real Estate wise. That is just mind boggling!

That says to me that there are lots and lots and lots of InActive Rainers - or maybe the majority of members are lurkers?

Seeing all the activity and excellent posts here on Active Rain, I would have expected to be at the very bottom.

This gives me hope that it's still not too late to strart to be active in blogging and social media and still be able to make a dent and reach future clients.

But first, deciding whether it's worth it to reach consumers here or via an outside blog - thoughts?

Thanks to all those who are ACTIVE your sharing is going to help me be able to build the social media outreach I need.

Jon, I blog on AR as well as wordpress.com.  The more exposure the better.

Jon,

The active rain community is a give and take type community.  In order to receive more action you will need to give IMHO.  Start by uploading your picture and a bio...then join some groups and actively start commenting.  You can receive points just be logging in every day and then more for comments.  After a while you will move toward more blogging....and the circle will grow.  There are great referrals here....and great friends to learn from.  Google your name and see if your AR profile shows up...that is a great motivator to get going....

Hey Jon,

Why one or the other?

You're a rainmaker, so you can do both. You get an outside blog url that you can use in your marketing efforts and it can be updated everytime you blog inside of ActiveRain.

Pam.

Jon....upload a photo or something that resembles a photo....then post something that says you are off and running with blogging....make sure you respond to every comment.....and then check out that person's blog and comment on theirs.

Jon - Through active blogging you can raise those numbers quickly.  Yes, lurking gets you some information on real estate, but blogging gets you a social network.

Without a doubt many people do not realize the power of AR. But it does help with the google juice and even more important, you will meet many great people here on AR.

Outside Blog

Jon - It's a fair question for sure.

I've been on Active Rain since 2007, but only got truly active 60 days ago.

I use a WordPress BLOG and am adding in AR.  I think both are critical, and that one without the other is a mistake.
